BRAZIL Although the city of Bauru, located in the center of the State of Sao Paulo, has only 65,000 inhabitants, it boasts of the in largest radio auditorium Brazil, even exceeding those in the large cities of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. In Baum Radio Station, PliG8, although not the most powerful in Brazil (1210 kilocycles), an audience of 1200 enjoys the programs. The four LDS missionaries laboring in this city had tried to get a radio program over this same station for severat weeks, but each time they were told that the station would only accept programs at their regular fee which was too high to even be considered. The Elders felt, however, that a program over the station, play- ing Tabernack organ and choir records In connection with a Gospel message, would be of great value in procelyting. So they approached some of their business friends, all of the Church, four of whom agreed to sponsor a weekly LDS program. The four firms are: Hotel Central;-JoymBishusky, Cia.; Electro Bauru; and Galas, Cie. Now every Monday night a program of music by the Tabernacle Choir and a feature a newly baptized speaker, Wassimon Pereira, member, give radio listeners the music from Temple Square and information concerning the reestablishment of the Gospel here on earth. The four firms, who pay all expenses, receive no mention In connection with the pro gram. SANDERS BERGEN, NORWAY During the early part of September missionaries, members and friends of the Church from all major cities on the West Coast of Norway gathered in Bergen to participate in the annual MIA convention of the Norwegian Mission. Many towns and cities were represented from as far south as Flekkefjord to Aalestmd on the north. The first day of the convention, or "Stesmet" as it is called In Norwegian, featured visits to several museums in the city, the most outstanding of which is Hanseatisk Museum, where one can learn of the customs of fifteenth century Germans influential in Bergen at that time. Other highlight of the day tvas a trip up one of Bergen's famous mountains In a car that resembled the cable cars of San Vrancisco. IN THE EVENING an estimated crowd of 400 gathered to witness an exhibition basketball game between the elders hi Bergen and the missionaries from Stavanger. As basketball is quite unknown in Norway most of the people had a new and novel experience. As a direct result of such sports activities 9 - ' ... ....,- .
