Westminster women soccer team is having a successful season, currently ranked 17th in the nation with 10 wins and one loss Dedicated, successful and competitive are just a few words to describe this years women soccer team who is currently having a successful season with ). 10 wins and one loss Head coach of the team and Westminster alumnus, Tony Leblanc, has been coaching for the women soccer team for eight years. Leblanc said he is happy with his teams season and said, I came back to Westminster to (10-1-2- (10-2-- 1). coach because I love it here and it is one of the more special places I have ever been a part of." Leblanc was a student when athlete he attended school at Westminster. The education I received here and the experience I had as a student athlete were fantastic and it was an easy sell for me to come back and coach, Leblanc said. So far, the team has had a great start to the season and has been nationally recognized as al Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Jennifer Beaudoin, senior business marketing major and team captain said, We have had a great start to the season because of our dedication to teamwork and dedication to taking the correct steps to reaching our goals. Westminster sports teams are known to recruit athletes by informing potential students about Westminsters small class sizes and great location, according to a few of the women soccer team players. Emily Bergland, first-ye- ar student who plays defense, said: I really wanted to play soccer at college and Westminster was great at getting back to me. I am able to play a sport and I love this school, so it was a perfect match. The team this year is very geographically diverse with players hailing from Utah, Colorado, Idaho and Vermont-mak-i- ng the dynamic a bit different this season. Lexi Tucker, senior sociology major and team captain who plays forward and attacking midfield, described the team as a bit more laid back than last year. It is super competitive, Tucker said. The women soccer team would love to see more of a presence of students attending home games. The team coach, Leblanc, said, Its a good time to come watch us because we are looking strong and we have some big ri val games coming up. Students who have attended games have had positive feedback. senior Cabri, Anthony Even if nursing major, said, students have never played the sport, they are still able to feel connected to the game and athletes whether they win or lose. Jim Leary, sophomore business major, said, It is so exciting to see my peers in another setting other than just the classroom. I wish that more students would attend the games to show their support for the school. If students on campus are thinking about attending games this season, the next home game will be against Carroll, on Oct. 26 at noon. |
