McCormick is known for providing more than just laughs he brings awareness to the LGBT community. He is currently on his 2014 nationwide Comic Boss Tour. McCormicks shows attempt to breakdown homophobic stereotypes. Portions of the proceeds from all his shows go to the LGBT homeless youth. Huffington Post featured an article on McCormick and his community outreach. McCormick was quoted: Ive been blessed to share the gifts and talents that I have been given, with the community. I also feel like in addition to creating more visibility of the LGBT community on stage, that we should also take these opportunities to bring focus to the needs within our community. On Aug. 27, 2013 McCormick was the first openly gay black male comedian to headline the historic Howard Theatre in Washington D.C. Right now, not just as a Westminster community but here in our social standing, its still a very serious topic, Andrea Campos said. Having a comedian come brings a lighter side to such a serious topic. Other than the comedian, Campos said shes excited for the sequel documentary Fagbug Nation. Campos said that there is even a student from CREDIT Westminster interviewed within the film. The Fagbug team visited Westminster in April 2013 and premiered its first documentary. Erin Davies, director of the film, is returning to air the sequel Fagbug Nation. Fagbug Nation is signified by the symbol of Davies rainbow Volkswagen bug that travels all around the nation fighting for equality for the LGBT community. Vanity Fair recognized Fagbug Nation as the best gay car movie of the year. Students can meet Davies and her rainbow bug on Thursday night at 7 p.m. Davies will also be providing insight with an open question and answer session right after the film. There will be another speaker in the Gore Business School auditorium Thursday, Oct. 23 at noon. Moudi Sbeity and Derek Kitchen are two of the six plaintiffs that have been leading the case for marriage equality in the state of Utah. The couple is from Utah and they both own and operate a business in Salt Lake City. They will share with Westminsters community their personal experiences, details about the lawsuit and their exposure to the national spotlight. Student Affairs Diversity Director Luciano Marzulli said he has wanted to bring in a speaker on marriage equality for Fag-bug.co- m Matt Miles some time. Marzulli was able to contact the couple and ask them to share their stories with Westminsters community. My hope with pride week is for students who identify themselves as allies in LGBT... that their experience will be honored, Marzulli said.
