Mr. Westminster is an annual male talent show in Vieve Gore Concert HaU, where all the contestants go through a series of five events to show off their skills. The events include a group opening dance routine, an onstage interview, active wear, talent and formal wear. They want to prove to the student body that they can best represent Westminster College. The constants are nominated by the students for a chance to become the next Mr. Westminster. Not all constants know that they are being volunteered until finals week in December. The individuals who competed in this years 2013 Mr. Westminster were Bryan Rucklos, Austin Shop-bel- l, Brandon Lloyd, Chris Kimler, Graham Doherty, Gui Santos, Jacob Barrett, Jake Boudreau, Reid Lewis, Cody Gillins, Trey Hansen and Tyson Olcott. The event also featured special appearance by Chris Gibbs, last years Mr. Westminster, as well as Miss Utah. Gibbs gave some points and advice on how to dominate the field and still have a good time. Tm pretty sure its a requirement that each guy competing has to make a complete fool of himself. Some advice for future contenders; go big or go home! He said. Nick Rhodes, an advisor to the Residence Hall Association, thinks the best part of Mr. Westminster is that it has to have been watching the guys come together. They take ownership of the contest and make it their own. They get excited and get everyone else excited. Its a great community event and good tradition with good i 1 memories." The competition raises money for the Rape Recovery Center in Salt Lake City through the competition and a Mr. Westminster calendar, featuring each of the contestants. The twelve men, one for each month, are featured in a calendar that is sold and autographed before the show and after the show, said Rhodes. All the proceeds go to Rape Recovery Center. This pageant provides a good fun event while giving back to the community. Mr. Westminster is for a good cause: to help raise money for the Rape Recovery Center and raise rape a awareness. Students who are interested in competing for next years Mr. Westminster should make sure one of your t i friends nominate you, the nominations forums are released late November and early December, Rhodes said. The contestants are announced at late night breakfast for who are the top twelve contestants. Senior Tyson Olcott was named Mr. Westminster 2013 and impressed in hisformal wear. |
