Show 4 ASWC A FORUMFORTNIGHTLY.COM CONSISTENT VOICE Sumner Fisher Staff Reporter ASWC plans to put messages all in one place. ASWCs Director of Com- munications is in the process of developing a plan that will make information more accessible and provide opportunities for students. Communication is a huge part of every college campus and comes in many forms. At Westminster, it ranges from signs taped up in every building to the television screens in the student center. hand-paint- ed from come Messages around 70 to 80 organizations across campus, and it can take a student their entire time at Westminster to figure out how internal communication m works. Lucas Morris noticed this problem when he became ASWCs director of communica- tions. I am thinking how can we have a consistent voice across all of these organizations and I have developed a plan, he said. Morris plan comes in three phases, the first being a way to organization all internal com- munication. I dont think that some students hear more than 10 percent of what is going on, said Morris. His solution is to create email a daily campus-wid- e called Westminster the Daily, that combines all the emails that students receive on an everyday basis' into one easy-to-remessage. This message would then be sent to the entire student body. Morris would also like to see an increase in monthly ad printed schedules highlighting events that would be easily accessible to students. He also wants to make a brief calendar of what is going on each month. Both of these ideas could serve as an opportunity communication students ; for ; to increase their portfolios and resumes. The second phase is to increase the infrastructure of communications by creating positions for art and communication students, which in turn will allow them to grow their portfolios. These students would work outside Westminster as advertisers or designers, helping out local businesses in the Sugar campus Lucas Morris, ASWC's Director of Communication House area. These phases would help expand and allow these needed opportunities to form. program would allow for struggling businesses to get help with branding and advertising, and also allow students to get experience This working with real clients. The third phase, which would be further down the road, is establishing programs within Westminster that further allow students to build their portfolios and experiyou ence. One that I look forward to hopefully seeing before I graduate is a crowd-sourcapparel program, said Morris. This would allow all communication students to visit a social media site where anyone could post ideas for apparel, and students could submit designs.
