The restaurant was founded over eight years ago by former owner Saipin Saeyei and her husband Virath-th-ey now own Sawadee. Thai Siam is perfect for college students located at 1435 S. and State, only a ten minute drive from Westminster. 4 ( If there are tales about Thai restaurants in Utah, Thai Siam is where most begin. Other Thai restaurants like Thai Garden, Chanon Thai Cafe, Pawits Royale Thai cuisine, Taste of Thai, Ekamai Thai Curry, J Wongs and many more have roots from Thai Siam. Thai Siam isnt just great for being original. Its the perfect fit for everyone. At other Thai restaurants vegetarians might feel left out when their friends are enjoying Larb a spicy meat salad that comes with sticky rice. But At Thai Siam Larb vegetarian is available and theyre even tasty for too. We really pay attention to our customers, they let us know if theyre allergic to vinyl or latex gloves also if they eat gluten free these little things are important, said Lamduan Kaewsau, Thai Siam manager. Thai Siam is also known for being kid friendly. When I was enjoying my dinner I noticed that the serv non-vegetaria- ns, ers were extremely friendly to kids and theyre the best at suggesting kids favorite Thai dishes. We are all in our thirties and forties and none of us have kids, we love playing with them when they come in, said Ketkanok Hebertson, a Thai Siam waitress. At lunch Thai Siam is known for their cheap and valuable lunch combo. For only $7.45 customers can get two sides, jasmine rice and a spring roll ready in less than 15 minutes. If youre big on Thai ice tea Thai Siam is also another place you will not want to miss. Kaewseau took me behind the curtain to show me the process of brewing the Thai ice tea. She tells me that Thai Siam is one of the few places that brew their Thai ice tea daily. Other smaller Thai restaurants have to premake and refrigerate their Thai ice tea because they dont sell as much. Thai Siam is perfect for family dinners as every dish is served family style. All stir fries and curry come with an all you can eat jasmine rice on the side. Their food is so good that you will want to take every bit home. All the time we get customers asking for to-g- o boxes even if there are only two spoons of curry left, said Hebertson. Try starting off with calamari or crab in the blanket Thai Siam version of cream cheese wonton is a mixture of cream cheese and imitation crab that will melt in your mouth. For the curry lovers, dont miss Gang Khua Sub Pa Rod or the pineapple curry. Its well worth what youll be paying for only $10.95. Its sweet, sour and a little spicy curry with shrimp, lime leaf, pineapple and cherry tomatoes. If you want to try salmon I recommend Pla Rad Prik nick named on the menu as The Ocean Commotion. Its stir fried with ginger sauce along with onions, Thai basil, bell peppers, mushrooms and baby com. Before you leave dont forget Thai Siams highlight mango and sweet sticky rice awarded by Salt Lake Magazine as Best Reason to Have Dessert First, in August 2006. After years of expanding and remodeling, Thai Siam still is making big plans for the future. Kaewseau says that Thai Siam is now open on Sundays and plans to expand to another location. As I mentioned earlier Sawadee restaurant is our next stop. Located in the avenues, Sawadee is ideal for people who live or work downtown. As you walk in you will be amazed by the restaurants decor. Wood carvings, giant oil paintings and fountains add to the dining experience. If youre in a hurry Sawadee is known for their super fast service for both lunch and dinner. Their servers are very alert and responsive. If youre close to downtown, looking for big portions at a cheap price, Sawadee is right for you. Moving down to 900 S. and 300 E., every Thai person will tell you this is where you can find the most authentic Thai food in Utah.
