Show Salt Lake City has ironic lack of jazz Private clubs, college campuses serve the improvisational music community group The Legendary Porch Pounders. Rob Vorwald Staff Writer Jazz is a slippery catch in the murky waters of Salt Lake. Jazz music, especially soloist performers, can be difficult to find. Outside of bars and private clubs, college campuses tend to be the usual venue, and even these performances are limited to one every month or two. For more frequent performances, bars and private clubs can provide for those old enough. The Bayou, a private club for members located at 645 S. State St., has an extensive music schedule for January and February. The schedule, which can be found online at www.utahbayou.com, includes performances by Latin Jazz Factory, the Joe Chisholm Band and BRIJJ, performances of original jazz music written by local professors and artists. Performances usually begin at 9 p.m. and go com. Orange, another private club located at 533 S. 500 W., has an open jazz jam every Thursday night. Lance Edwards, the owner of Orange, often loses money doing these jams, but he continues the practice because of his love for the music.
