Starting with the new track, the faculty member, the staff member and the student will race each other, speed walking to reach and cut the ribbon first. Next, the three winners for the climbing wall will have to quickly climb up the wall and cut the ribbon at the top. Lastly, the ceremonial pool walk and swim will be made by Executive Vice President Steve Morgan and Provost Cid Seidelman. Activities Coordinator Tyson Smith estimated that there were close to 400 people at the event. Before Rusesabagina While the audience members were finishing the first bout of clapping, Rusesabagina said, Tonight we together are going to have a ride. The ride Rusesabagina spoke of was more than many audience members expected. As he detailed his experiences with the Rwandan genocide and his efforts to save the targeted individuals, many were brought to tears. He talked about cockroaches, the term given to Tutsi individuals by the violent Hutu groups.' Rusesabagina explained that the Hutu group used this 1 4 name for the Tutsis because they were dehumanizing people before killing them, so killing them is nothing more than getting rid of infestation. Everyone in the country was fighting, Rusesabagina said. I decided to fight with my mouth, to fight with words. His tactics worked; he managed to save the lives of 1,268 people. Rusesabagina had to make the decision to stay and help these people instead of fleeing the area. He said he remembered thinking, If I leave them and they die, I will never be a free man.
