WeDletociflS Teaotm As the Westminster womens volleyball season quickly approaches completion, fans gathered to enthusiastically support the Lady Griffins for their last home game. The team secured a victory comover their petitors of the University of well-match- ed Great Falls. Making Westminster Volleyball the Frontier Conference champions, and giving Westminsters its first Volleyball championship. The first set began with the Griffins quickly establishing a lead, scoring four consecutive points. Westminsters early advantage, however, was challenged when Great Falls players tied the score 9 to 9. Both Angie Johnson and Paige Hunt played integral roles in eventually securing a victory. Johnsons fierce spikes and Hunts serves, in coordination with the tireless efforts of all of the other well-calculat- ed IPMsiies players, were able to produce a win; the final score 30 to 23. Although the first set presented little difficulty for the Lady Griffins, the second set saw them struggling to match the scoring of the University of Great Fall players. Each point gained by Great Falls was equally matched with one scored by Westminster. It was not until the very end of the match that Great Falls was able to pull ahead and secure a lead. victory with a two-poiThe final score, 31 to 29, revealed the unrelenting efforts of the Lady Griffins. The Westminster Griffins returned to unbeatable form during the third set. They quickly established a significant lead that was challenged only briefly by Great Falls toward the middle of the set. They again, however, outscored Great Falls and won 30 to 22. Having already won two sets, the Lady Griffins entered their forth match eager to establish a victory and end the nt IKtomnie aomes TOSOn TO on game early. Throughout most of the match there was only differential in the a one-poiscore, but it was Great Falls that eventually pulled ahead, winning the fourth set, 30 to 28. As both the Griffins and the University of Great Falls players had each won two sets, the fifth and final match would determine the victor of the game. It was nt Westminsters undefeatable defense that allowed the team to maintain their early lead and quickly outscore Great Falls. The match concluded with the Griffins winning the fifth set 15 to 10 and claiming a victory in the game. Westminsters success in the match against the University of Great Falls was not an isolated victory; the womens volleyball team has consistently played well and presented tough competition throughout the season.
