Chris Wharton; Clubs and Organizations chair, followed with updating the Senate on the pledge to vote competition. Westminster was able to get 28 percent of its student body pledgel to vote, while Salt Lake Community College is in a distant second at 8 percent. However, not every college has reported their final total. This did not stop Wharton from saying, Ya, so for now I think Westminster won.., and thank you for making Westminster a politically aware campus. The Senate meeting continued with swearing in three new. senators: Katie Blumberg, nursing; Michelle Attridge, graduate; y and Dave Nelson, pure & applied science. The Senate also approved the appointment of Ryan Bissegger as Westminsters senior representative. The next item on the agenda was the consideration of new clubs for ASWC recognition. The clubs that were discussed were the: Radio Club, Finance Club, Sassy Swingers Food Critics Club, Debate Team, Libertarian Club and the Bowling Olut?.. The Senate spent most of its time discussing the recommendations of the Student Life Committee and Wharton on the consideration of ASWC approval. Most questions dealt with issues pertaining to the clubs constitutions, constitutions that the Senate! The Senate voted to table the seven clubs up for consideration until the next Senate meeting, before then each senator will have a chance to review each of the clubs constitutions. David Owens, the current president of the Radio Club, plans to broadcast ASWC Senate meetings with political commentary, choir performances ASWC announcements, campus activities, , editorials, comedy skits, the news, Westminster sports, student selected music; student announcements and events, along with practically anything students want to listen to on the radio that is ; tasteful. When asked why the Radio Club had not started, Owens responded that the dub is waiting for an approval from ASWC; which is waiting for a favorable recommendation from the Student Life Committee. Owens originally petitioned for this in the summer of 2002, and was able to fill the dub petition sheet front and back with student signatures. There is definitely student support for a Westminster Radiol Club, said Owens. Some of the issues brought up in the Senate meeting were questions on broadcasting music, with other concerns about U licenses, fees and FCC regulations. Owens answered these questions by saying, After paying a minor fee to RIAA, broadcasting music would be legal as long as the students have the rights to the music, meaning that the students own the actual CD, and this does not include downloaded music or illegally burnt CDs.: No downloaded music, or illegally obtained music, will be played. v:: Owens went on to say that paying this fee to broadcast music is still under an honor system and the Radio Club has every' intention to abide by every law there is pertaining to radio broadcasting. For many people who are wondering what channel to tune into if the Radio Club gets off the ground, Owens has arranged with the IT department to broadcast the radio station over Westminsters network. Only computers on Westminsters campus will have the opportunity to listen to the radio station. By limiting the Radio Clubs broadcasting boundaries to the campus, the Radio Club does not fall under FCC regulation. Owens commented, This is what makes the Radio Club unique is the fact that no other college or university' is doing the' See Senate pg. 8 nwwwiwtywwiimwww Tiie Forlwi welcomes your opinions, SUGGESTIONS, AND OTHER SUCH MUSINGS.
