Stasinos Staff Writer As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were proving to millions of viewers that they were die fiercer of the two pirate teams that played in Sundays Superbowl, a small eclectic crowd of about 100 people . gathered at the Jewett Center for the Performing Arts Auditorium to hear a concert, performed by Quattro Amici. The small, and seemingly sophisticated, crowd quietly filed into Jewett auditorium where they prepared to hear the German Romantic classical music of Mendelssohn and Brahms. The audience sat fidgeting and quiedy talking to each other as they waited. Mendelssohn and Brahms Sunday evening. Some read the programs which not only described the schedule for the evening, but also detailed the many distinguished awards, degrees and careers of each member of Quattro Amici. In the middle of the well-l- it stage sat a grand piano mounted on wheels, holding the sheet music. Just in front of the piano were two chairs and two music stands. The crowd continued chatting and slowly growing until the doors were closed at 7:30. The lights were dimmed, leaving only the stage illuminated, and the audience turned their attention forward. A trio made up of Lun Jiang on the violin, Pegsoon Whang on the cello and Karlyn Bond on the piano entered the stage and sat in their places. Jiang and Whang took a moment to fine tune their stringed instruments. Then, with a smile on her face, Bond looked to the others and raised one of her eyebrows, and the trio began to play. 'Hie music sounded playful as the musicians intently worked their hands in a jittering flurry of motion. There was an overwhelming absence of extraneous noise. The audience sat at rapt attention. Nobody coughed, whispered or even breathed too loud. The only sound in the auditorium was that of the music coming from the talented trio. This question was asked by Frank Evans of his teachers in divinity school. Their answer: Gods not happy with Gods church, thats why he calls people from different sides to make changes. Evans grew up in South Dakota, and was raised in the United Methodist Church. As a youth, he looked to his senior pastor as a mentor. He was took on many powerful roles as an undergraduate in a business fraternity. His father helped him decide to attend the University of Chicago for his Master of Finance degree. While there, he began to explore some of his sexual feelings. In his second summer of the program, he decided to tell his parents. He brought up a man from his familys past, Earl the photographer. Evans continued his successful career in finance, becoming a consultant to the South Dakota governor and moved to Pierre. Despite success in his career, he again felt restless. He wasnt hiding his sexual orientation, but at the same time could not be open about it. The biggest issue was keeping it hidden for the security of the family business as well as the governor. Still confused about how God was calling him, he attributed the success as a sign that he was in the correct field. After a few years in Pierre he received a call from the Aberdeen School District. Aberdeen was a city by South Dakota standards, with around 45,000 people.
