Atheists of Utah Set the Record Straight QUOTE OF THE WEEK About the NCCJ March 911 Atheists of Utah (AoU) supports Freedom, Diversity and above all Rememberance of those who lost their lives on that date, but we did NOT participate in the September 11th Walk and Concert for Freedom, Diversity and Rememberance sponsored by The NCCJ (National Conference for Community and Justice). We are rich only through what we give, and poor only through what we refuse. Anne Swetchine The NCCJ had promised that the Walk and Concert would be purely secular, as there were a number of religious activities commemorating the date earlier during the day. In written and oral communications with organizers, we made it clear that, while they could have watever sort of event they wanted, we would be unable to participate if there were religious components, such as praying, religious music, signs or speeches, and even pledging allegiance to the flag "under god." We were assured that the event would not include any of these and our group was widely advertised as one of the diverse groups that would participate presumably in order to attract other participants and other groups. - We apologize to any of these groups or participants who thought it was OK to participate because AoU was doing so. We had been shamefully that others were also misled. If you see pictures of lied to, and are sorry AoU members or the AoU banner, be aware that these pictures were taken BEFORE AoU walked out. We atheists do not care how believers practice their religion, so long as it on others. To have it thrust in our faces by a fundamenis not Imposed talist church choir at the start of the program, violating the covenant, was unacceptable and we walked out on the walk. Charles E.
