Show The Forum Page4 September 24, 2002 Students Display Creativity at T alent Show Kelli Coppens Staff Writer With a sharp juggling act, guitar strumming, and a new way to eat baked pie, the ARWC talent show Tuesday night revealed Westminster students have what it takes to put on a great show. What is a show without great prizes to keep the brave performers on their toes? song Happy Together by the Turtles. After transforming sweet smiles into looks of revenge, the girls displayed clenched fists and even a baseball bat to their frightened victim before Mawhinney fled then-brok- Junior Stephanie Triplett took home a new DVD player after her juggling act won first prize. Triplett impressed the judges by tossing objects such as large knives and food through the air. Second place went to a creative group of resident advisors who werent exacdy happy together. A number of female resident advisors ganged up against junior Sean . Mawhinney, also a resident advisor, serenading to him their own version of the sixties from the stage. Changing the lyrics to lines such as thats what you get for going out with other men had the audience roaring with laughter. Freshman Nolan Young thought he could down a whole pie within minutes until the crowd suggested wearing the dessert could be quicker. After smashing his head several times into a foil plate of crust and fruit, his real talent came through when Young managed to walk away with merely a small, purple smudge on the front of his white shirt. Laughter halted when Cullen Green, Director of Residential Life, took the spotlight. Green played acoustic guitar while he beautifully sang an original song. Other competitors included several individual guitarists and a pianist who also performed original music onstage. With all this talent, the Stephanie Triplett won first place and took home a DVD player at Tuesday s ARWC-sponsortalent show. ed en Students for Choice presents: group of resident advisors won second place with their disgruntled rendition of The Turtles Happy Together. A night called for something a bit different. The Forums own editor Matthew Gaschk teamed with junior Matt McMullen to give a act complete with failed magic tricks and Gaschk singing a Tom Waits song while clumsily non-tale- guitar since a team matched the score of his own musical performance. non-talent- ed nt strumming a guitar. During their comedic performance, McMullen professed that at least it was known he is truly an expert of not funny. Afterwards, a surprised reaction came from junior Rob Cummings who complained he will have to pawn his bass Do you have questions about sex but no one with answers?
