PMS Community Service Julia Burnard Chairperson the planned projects for the Shriners children, most of whom have orthopedic disabilities. It was a challenge planning activi- ties for the children, said Burnard. The volunteers provided the children with a variety of art and craft activities including coloring and boondoggle. In lieu of the planned activities several children took an opportunity to stare out the window as an autumn snow storm blanketed the city. The physical limitations of the children were only one obstacle faced by the PMS volunteers, the student group was also faced with a language barrier as the children were largely from Mexico. It was a great experience for students to learn the pre-medic- al how to deal with awkward situations where you cannot communicate, said Burnard. The volunteer effort benefited everyone involved, especially the children. With most of the children living away from their families, it is important that people make the effort to give the children personal attention, said PMS member Heidi Griess. Shriners Hospital allowed only 10 people to volunteer for this activity. As a result the society is planning another visit to the hospital in the near future. The Shriners activity is only one of several voactivities scheduled lunteer throughout the school year by PMS. pre-medic- al Christmas Pottery Sale December 5 Monday & December 6 Tuesday 9:00 a.m.2:00 p.m. in Shaw Center Lounge also December 6 Tuesday 4:30-7:- 00 p.m. Gore Building Foyer Student and faculty masterpieces available for purchase.
