Converse 2-- byLynette Rundell Forum staff writer ASWC is gearing up for their annual campaign and needs help to make it as successful as it has been in the Sub-for-San- ta past. According to ASWC Vice President Jeff Swanson, Every year 70 to 80 percent of the donations have been made by faculty and staff. This year we want to challenge students to give at least the same amount Swanson said last year ASWC raised over $1,000 in cash donations. They also collected a large numbers of toys, food and clothing for 12 local families and families of the Big Mountain Indian Reservation, located in the Four Comers area of Utah. This year Swanson said their goal is to raise $1,500. AS WC has planned numerous fund raiscampaign. ing events for the kickSwanson said the off started with the Halloween Dance. In order to attract attention to the spirit of giving to those in need during the holiday season, AS.WC is also placing colorful posters, decorated boxes and coffee cans around campus Swanson said this year the Westminster College earth Effort is donating half of the money collected in November from recycled cans. Swanson also said ASWC is looking outside campus for donations. They are in the process of contacting local businesses for contributions. Another fund raiser is the Turkey Bowl, held on campus on Nov. 26 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Shaw Center. This year ASWC is going to set up bowling pins in the hall in front of the Abbey and ASWC office. Students may purchase a chance of two bowls for $1 and roll frozen turkeys down r the lane, trying for a strike, said Swanson. ASWC also wants to place a Christmas tree in the Foothill Village Dans Foods with ornaments specifying childrens sizes and gender. Swanson said, Although this was not too successful last year, we want to try it again this year. Santa Bruce Bambi Lambert, Sub-fchairman, said, We at ASWC are doing what we can to raise consciousness of students on campus in the spirit of giving." "We realize students dont have a lot of money to spend, but whatever we can get is highly appreciated, Lambert said. Cheryl Moore, campus pastorcounselor, is currently accepting applications for families in need. These families must give their approval for being in the program. Their names will . be kept confidential, If you know of anyone who needs help, contact Moore.
