Movie Review Victim in Search of Justice By Jennifer Christensen . The film, "The Accused" deals with the way the victims and perpetrators of crimes are treated in our society. This drama emphasizes the humiliation a rape victim in search of Justice faces when dealing with the legal system. This film takes a different approach when dealing with the crime. Instead of focusing on the criminals who actually committed the crime, the solicitors who stood by and watched the rape take place, even encouraged it, are charged and tried. The main character Sarah Tobias is . portrayed by Jodie Foster. One night after getting in a fight with her boyfriend, to spite him Sarah goes to a bar with the intention of having a "good time." After having a few drinks, smoking marijuana, and flirting with a few customers, she ends up being raped by three men In the back of the bar. The plot takes off from here, as Sarah tries to cope with the trauma of being raped and then trying to find some sort of justice, in a system that has failed her. Forum 7 Angeles. Smokey Robinson, winner of the 1988 Grammy Award for Best Male Vocafist in the category of Rhythm and Blues, sings "Weve Saved the Best for Last," a number that combines the surly tenor voice of Robinson with the smooth tones of G on tenor sax. When G first appeared in Salt Lake In October of 1987, he gave the sold out audience at Symphony Hall his very first preview of a song he had just written entitled "Pastel." After the first eight measures he had to stop playing, to his welcome surprise, because the crowd's applause prevented him from being heard. "Pastel" is one of the two songs on his album that G painstakingly wrote and produced in his own studio, Studio G in Los In the process of convicting the three men who committed the crime, Sarah's shady background with drugs and her police record for one count of cocaine possession is revealed. As a result it is her lifestyle that becomes the issue in the trial, not the rape. Kelly McGillis plays the assistant district attorney, Katheryn Murphy. She feels responsible for the way in which the system has let Sarah down. To rectify some of the damage that has already been done to her client, Katheryn decides to the case and convict the bystanders who allowed the rape happen. The film is sure to bring about some re-op- en controversy. Some will argue that the rape scene was "sexy" with Jodie Foster never looking better than she does in this scene, forced up against a pinball machine while three men take their turns. Rape is not fully depicted in the film as Uie horrible act that it is. The movie, "The Accused" can be commended for the fact that it brings awareness to the issue that witnesses can be as guilty as the perpetrators, by either provoking the crime or ignoring it.
