For five days and six nights, $229 will cover transportation, lodging at condominiums and a five day ski pass. A $50 deposit is due by Dec. 7 and can be given to Director of Campus Life Doug Noertker or student Kerry McDonald. This is the first year that the trip is going to Steamboat Springs. Previously, the ski club has gone to Jackson Hole, Wyo. According to Noertker, the change came about because of expenses, inconvenience and location. Rather than Jackson Hole ski resort itself, the students were actually staying and skiing at Snow King ski area which is much smaller. If a person wanted to ski at Jackson Hole they had to purchase their own lift ticket and get there on their own. The advantages of Steamboat Springs are the townhomes with amenities, which include swimming pools, Jacuzzis, washers, dryers and a free, unlimited bus pass good for the entire town and resort area, Noertker said. The condos are located at the resort rather than in the town. This trip is six nights and five days of skiing compared to four nights and three ski days as before, Noertker added. Steamboat Springs offers 18 chairlifts and a vertical drop of 3,000 feet. Another advantage are the kitchens right in the rooms at Steamboat Springs. In Jackson Hole, students had no facilities to cook in and spent lots of money on restaurants. According to Noertker, a student could easily spend over $150 in Wyoming because of the food and the extra ski passes at Jackson Hole. Noertker said that this trip is a quality trip while in the long run the extra $130 more than last year easily pays off in the end. 4 Little Cottonwood Offers Skiing Variety by Snowbird has seven lifts and a 125 passenger Nanci Boyd aerial tram. Over half of the runs are for advanced and expert skiiers. Little Cotton- wood is a very steep canyon providing more difficult terrain than the other two canyons. The last two ski resorts on the Salt Lake City Wasatch front are Snowbird and Alta. They are located in Little Cottonwood Canyon which is at approximately 9000 S. There are several restaurants and bars including Mid Gad restaurant which is half way up the mountain. Snowbird has a ski school, day care center, ski shop and several other small gift and clothing stores. An all day chair pass is $16 and an all day chair and tram pass is $22. Snowbird is a unique resort in that it combines the classiness of Deer Valley with just as strong an appeal to locals as to tourists. Its a favorite with the locals because of the variety of runs, prices, Gad valley, and the tram. Tourists love Snowbird because of the several high-ris- e luxury lodges located at the resort Alta is a few minutes past Snowbird and is a very interesting resort. It offers the high variety, steep alpine skiing of Snowbird, but at Solitude-Brighto- n prices. It has lodging also, but it doesnt have that high class reputation such as Snowbird and Deer Valley. Its more of a homey resort which is fantastic because for $12 a day a person cannot find better skiing anywhere else. Alta has eight chairlifts and an altitude of 10,550 feet." It has a ski school, ski shop and several restaurants and bars. but it is Not only is Snowbird a winter resort also a summer resort They offer concerts, art shows and various activities including skiing throughout May and June. People can also hike up to Mount Baldy and Hidden Peak at 11,000 feet Located in the lodges are swimming pools, 'saunas, and tennis courts for year-roun- d HIDDEN PEAK T The last two issues of the Forum covered Deer Valley, Park City, Park West, Solitude and Brighton.
