First, the investigators may be doing a thorough job by subpoenaing everybody even remotely connected to the home allegations. and Second, the investigators could be on a legalistic fishing trip and haven't caught anything yet. 4 has been more than a month since the Sun Advocate broke the story of the investigation. The probe had been going on even before then. Still there is not a murmur from the Attorney General's office, and only hints from local officials that more and more lawmen are being summoned to Salt Lake for questioning. school What is taking so long? Of course it is; everyone knows that. After all, they look like you, they make you proud, they make you presents, they miss you when you are gone, they care what you think, they tell you they love you, and they come to you for just about everything from right answers and toy It is repairs to sympathy and first-aireally great to be loved and needed like that! thoughts or feelings about them at one time or another. It is only human to be shocked, aggravated, or even despondent when your children behave inappropriately. Have you ever caught yourself really disliking your child, then feeling guilty afterwards? Do you find yourself it, when you hell outgrow saying, know darn well you cant wait that long. More important, have you ever wondered if it is all your fault and you are simply a bad parent? At any rate, we simply want to let you know that it is not unusual for parents to encounter child management problems at one time or another and that such parents are not inhuman, if they happen to get upset or about it. After all, parents have rights, too. Just as children, parents need opportunity and freedom to grow. When the opportunity and freedom are infringed upon, it seems only natural to experience some degree of frustration. Throughout the years, authorities on child rearing have handed down all sorts of advice. Remember when spare the rod and spoil the child was the only respected doctrine? Shortly after, this was replaced by the doctrine that parents could inflict harm on their childs personality if they did not spare the rod. Instead, parents were encouraged to achieve insight into the anti-soci- But, as we all know, every silver lining has its cloud. To illustrate this point, here is a short list of little clouds, some of which will strike a chord and sound familiar in the hearts and minds of many parents. Just two days ago your daughter adopted the strategy of screaming, kicking and throwing things whenever she couldnt have her way. You have already grown tired of these tantrums, but there seems to be no solution in sight. Up until recently, you really havent minded grocery shopping with the children. Lately, however, they have been whining and acting like a sworm of mosquitos. You hate to hire a babysitter just so you can shop, but what else can you do? Your pride and joy has developed the rather effective tactic to avoid chores. You can ask him to straighten his room or take out the garbage, but he invariably promises to do it later. Of course, he usually forgets to do as he has promised. Sound familiar? The point of this list is to get you thinking about what in particular your child does that is annoying to you, and also point out that the above mentioned problem situations are not unique to only your family, but usually occur at one time or another in almost every home. Just as most parents have some difficulties with their children, most parents also experience negative underlying cause of your childs behavior. As the amount of research in child psychology developed, a powerful technology for behavior change began to come lorth. The bahavior change approaches succeeded where others had failed for one very simple reason: they were based on findings of scientific research and because they made scientific recommendations about what parents could do to change their childrens behavior. These skills have been compiled in a concrete program of parenting procedures particularly effective with children between the ages of 2 to 12 years. This program is being offered at the Four Corners Mental Health Center for those parents who wish to improve the relationship between themselves and their cherished offspring. Normalville. It is unlikely that the average citizen will ever be able to come to Washington and participate in hearings or open Senate sessions. Certainly, some of what happens is so dull and boring that the average citizen would have no desire to view it. But there are issues, such as tax legislation, which have a profound effect on the lives of Americans and which they should be given the opportunity to see in the making. If the networks were given permission to come in and tape those sessions for broadcast or, better yet, to broadcast them live, the American people would have a great deal more access to what goes on in Congress and would have more of a chance for meaningful input to the legislative process. At the very least there should be closed circuit broadcasts, but I would like to go further and have totally open broadcasts of Senate sessions and committee meetings. In short, broadcast coverage can be ac- complished without proceedings. should disrupting WeSenate take this step to increase public understanding of the legislative process, to give the people a chance to better understand the issues Congress must resolve in debate and ultimately, with their votes. |
