Show 8 Sun Advocate, Price, Utah Wednesday, May 4, 1977 Mont Harmon dominates junior high track Mont Harmon made a clean sweep of the Carbon School District junior high track meets for both boys and girls on the Carbon High track last Wednesday. The Pirates reached up 97 points in the girls 7th grade division to second place Notre Dame which finished with 43. Helper was third in this division with 42 points and out-distan- East Carbon picked up three. In the 8th grade division for girls Mont Harmon edged out Helper, 83 to 70, while East Carbon moved up to third place in this division with 18 points and Notre Dame had 14. dominated The 9th grade girls team scores showed Mont Harmon way out in front again with 83, Helper was in second place again in this division with 72, Notre Dame finished with points and East Carbon all three divisions in the boys competition to win all team honors for the day. The 7th grade boys ran up a total of 121 points to 47 for second place Helper, 19.5 for East Carbon and 13 for Notre Dame. The results of the boys 8th Carbon almost as for Mont Harmon. The Pirates totaling 105 points, Helper getting 50, East front again with 106 points. Helper continued in second place with 76 points, East Carbon picked up 13 and Notre Dame 3. Coach Rich Hunters diamond team will close out the season within the next week by hosting Payson in Region Six action here Thursday at 3 p.m. and then traveling to American Fork Tuesday for the finale. The Dinos are still looking for their first league win this season, having dropped four straight. Sky View tied the score at in the top of the fifth but the Dinos wrapped it up in the bottom half of the same inning with three runs. All seven of the region schools will be represented along with Dixie High of St. George. The Flyers from Dixie will participate in the meet to qualify for state but will not be eligible for the Region Six crown. Coach Excell will take a squad of 36 to the regional, one of the largest teams in recent history at the Dino school. He said he expects Springville to be the top contender for the regional crown, with a real battle involving Payson, Uintah and his own Dinos in a fight for second place. The top four in each event at the regional will qualify for the state class track and field meet which will come off on May 14 at Weber State College in 3-- A Ogden. Anyone exceeding the state qualifying standard for any event before or during the regional meet also qualifies for the state meet. Carbon has four track stars who have in five different events on the basis of exceeding the state qualifying standard in prior meets. already-qualifie- They are Jeff Callor in the Potts in both the high jump and long jump, Max Cunningham in the discus and Frank Zubal in the pole vault. Coach Excell 880, Bobby expressed some concern over the physical condition of some of his tracksters Monday, particularly Callor who has been having tendon troubles in one leg, but the Dinos were expected to be ready for the Payson meet today. The Dinos failed to garner a single point at the BYU invitational last weekend despite the fact that Potts the exceeded state qualifying standard for the long jump and Luwaun Cunningham broke his own e school record for the run. two-mil- trackmen place in Bowling meet Ladies League of Nations Monday Night Helper, Utah Emery High and East Carbon both had individuals place in the track and field events of the BYU Invitational meet at Provo last week.
