Show Kids JACK PALANCE: "My children have missed the not of having, and that may be unexperience Sometimes fortunate. it's good to not have. "...CONNIE STEVENS: "Kids need us so much. It's up to us to help make their way into the world easier than it might otherwise be. After all, were the ones who made the world theyre going to have to live in.".. .MICHAEL LANDON: "I like to know how their I day was, and like them to know how my day was. I don't think kids should be brought up thinking everything centers around them. I think its easier if kids understand why you are in a different mood from one day to the next.. ..SHIRLEY JONES: "If I had my way, there would be a school for parents." "Why has the Tonight show been a success? People took upon us as a family. Very much like audiences did with the late Jack Benny. He had such actors as Phil Harris, Don Wilson and Frankie Remley to use as foils. And in much the same way, Johnny creates these images with me, as the drinker, Doc as the fancy dresser, and Tommy as the Dull One. I think people like this type of fun. In many instances, they think our projected images are really what we are.".. .HENRY WINKLER: "What makes the Fonz a success? Maybe its the street jargon he uses. Maybe it's the way he dresses. But the fact Is, hes merely cool, with integrity. He doesn't have to be rough, but he knows his way around and if it came down to it, he could take care of himself. But you'll notice he's not mean. He's always loyal and helpful to his pals." ED MCMAHON: Series MONTGOMERY: "Frankly, when Bewitched ended, I was relieved to be able to go on to something else. Series are too taxing. Luckily, I can wait for the right property to come along now, and do only one or two movies each year... .WALTER PIDGEON: "Ive been offered television series, and I once considered doing one. At that time, Ward Bond, who was starring in 'Wagon Train,' told me that if I took a series I'd have to say goodbye to my wife and all my friends. He said he was doing it only for the residuals that would take care of him in his old age. And then he died two weeks later. My decision was made.... VIVIAN VANCE: Yes, I could have had my own series, but I don't want that now. Maybe a small part every so often would be nice because its good to keep working, but I don't want to be a big star. The plums hang so high and the vampires beckon. Ambition like that doesn't go well with age. ELIZABETH PAGTftTVWEEK Sports Calendar THE FASHIONABLE SPORT Just how influential Is your favorite sport? Not because we are nearing the end of the season, and not because the Cincinnati Bengals will be playing the Oakland Raiders, but rather because Howard Cosell has been named the winner of the 1976 Van Patrick Award from "Football' News." Said the publisher of "Football News" in naming Cosell, "Howard always has time for people. We have seen him after a tough Monday night telecast leave his family to be Interviewed by a high school student. The man never forgets the days when he was a struggling young newscaster.
