Show Shrine picnic a success of Eastern Star Hun-va-voc&- rummage sale ta Sunday afternoon August the annual Shrine East Carbon barbecue came off without a hitch. 24, Dorothy Routh, Worthy Matron of Naomi Chapter No. 13, order of the Eastern (Dragerton Sunnyside Correspondent PO Box 1079 Page 2 Columbia) -- Chalmers Hicks East Carbon City Thursday, Aug. 28, 1975 The last time that contact was made with Tom Anderson, President of the Eastern Utah Shrine Club, he was grinning from ear to ear as he counted the sheckels. Star announces that the requests for rummage have resulted in a large amount of pledges which are still coming in. It has, therefore, been decided to hold a one day rummage sale at the Price Masonic Temple on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The address is Price Masonic Temple, 39 North First East, Price. Sun Advocate, Price, Utah It was not only a success far as financial returns were concerned but the whole story was one of devotion by a large number as answer. What if we knew for certain that todays retribution was a result of having misbehaved in a previous lifetime? The importance of this question is of such magnitude as to transcend in importance all other considerations. The circumstances of our present lives may be the result of our conduct in a former existence just as our conduct in this life may be the harbinger of things to come in future lives. "Quote" Me by Chalmers Hicks Having some idea of the purpose of human existence; of the trials and tribulations of living; and some positive idea about whether, or not, there is a higher order of intelligence, ought to, it seems to me, occupy at least a tithe of thoughtful consideration. It is obvious to the point of ridiculousness that the preversity of man has brought us, you and me, to our present state of moral and ethical abandonment. Fortunate, indeed, are those persons whose character, arrived at instinctively or intuitively, are above reproach. Their credo seems to be, Do unto others well, even if there is no reciprocity. The one principle that is so sadly lacking in all of us. What is meant by thoughtful consideration? Do we live by a set of laws? Unseen, but immutable? Are the penalties for violation certain and just? Are those who are now suffering pain and distress doing pennance for misdemeanor in a previous life? These and other questions, so vital to all of us, can end a great deal of uncertainty, with some introspection on our part. In fact, this theme was the motive for discoursing recently, on the need and the means for acquiring knowledge. We have speculated on the use of hypnosis, electronic stimulation of the brain, transcendentalism, empiricism, etc. Now we wish to add some comments on reincarnation. Perhaps we shall ask, with purpose, more questions than we answer; it may very well be that all of this will just be considered verbiage; an exercise in futility; or that someone reading it will respond by saying, Who cares? etc. It is fervently hoped that it will be "So what? meaningful in some respect, rather than just being filler. We oftentimes find ourselves in possession of information, the source of which there is no accounting, finding oneself in a position or a place so familiar it is startling; or the finding of an individual repugnant without cause or reason, while on the other hand finding one who is immediately taken to the heart as acceptable and trust- worthy. In the matter of abject poverty versus opulence; it may It is not surprising, in the least that those who have not thought out some of these questions conclusively, find the miracle of birth a second time incomprehensible, while the first birth is perfectly plausible. This despite the Biblical Ye must be born again. injunction, To the person who comes to the end of his or her earthly existence, truly and sincerely, sorrowed by having perpetrated a wrong or a series of wrongs to a person or persons; one who desires more than anything else the opportunity to expiate his sins; realizing that there is no earthly chance to make amends, does it make any sense at all that the Heavenly Father who forgives again and again would deny such a one the souls sincere desire?
