Pat has had infection in his foot which did not respond to treatment, and he underwent surgery this week for the removal of the foot. At last reports, he was recovering satisfactorily. Townspeople are much concerned about Pats long bout with infection, and have been most generous with cards, phone calls, etc., the family states. Pat wishes to thank everyone for the many messages and cards he has received expressing encouragement and concern. The new one was born October 14, was 22 Inches long and weighed 7 pounds 1 ounce. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Vem Kaufman, former residents, now of the Bay area in California. Mrs. Kaufman is spending a few weeks with her daughter and family and getting acquainted with the new grandson. Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Workman are the parents of a baby boy (Stephen Ward) born October 30 at 1 : 23 p.m. in the Moab hospital. The new little fellow, their second son, weighted in at 6 pounds 9 ounces and was 19 inches long. Green River asked for Mrs. Baker and Mr. Bigelow as well as Jim Hurst to represent them, and the three were appointed by the county commission to act for Castle Country. Sandy Sanstead visited with Darys Ekker last week from his home in Salt Lake concerning their mining interests in the Henry Mountains. Miss Fern Hunt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reo Hunt, underwent major surgery at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake last week. Her sister, Trudy, went to Salt Lake to care for her upon her release. Fern manages the Poor Boy Cafe and Motel here. Mrs. Eula Allen was a patient at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Moab last week. Her mother, Mrs. Unis Gass accompanied her to Moab and visited with her granddaughter for the week. Mrs. Gass makes her home in Salt Lake. Word was received here of the death of John Gerritt Ekker, 74, of Springville, October 28th. Born Dec. 3, 1897 in Tooele to Albert Henry and Harriet Griffith Ekker. He married Florance Harrison in 1928 and she passed away in 1968. He was a lifelong cattle rancher and secretary of the Onaqui Grazing Association. Surviving him are two sons and two daughters, John G. Ekker Jr. and Mames H. Ekker, Vernon, Mrs. Warren (Louise) Schouten, Ogden, and Grant (Leta) Bar- tholomew, Van Nuys, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; brothers and sister; Richard Ekker, Tooele, Herman Ekker and Mrrs. E. M. (Mabel) Snell, Eureka. Funeral was held Tuesday in the Springville 4th ward chapel with burial in the Eergreen Cemetary there. Mr. and Mrs.Don Ekker and two daughters are vacationing this week on Lake Powell putting their craft in at Bull Frog and touring to Page. Accompanying them is Dons parents, Mr. and Mrs. Riter Ekker. Mr. Bill Wells returned to Hanksville this week from his new home in Idaho to gather his cattle and to take another load of personal belongings back to his new ranch. Two Halloween parties were held Tuesday, one at the Elementary School and one at MIA. The younger groups festivities began at 6:30 at the school with a parade of costumes, followed by chile, doughnuts, cupcakes, cocoa and then games. Mrs. Roy (Dixie) Ekker of Provo received word her sister and husband in Spokan, Wash., are the parents of an 8 pound 2 ounce baby girl born Sept. 24. Nancy is a former resident of Green River.
