Show Thursday, May 7, 1970 Dino title hopes get boost as region teams shuffle places 'HELPER Carbon High School Tacked Payson twice on the Help, er diamond last Thursday afternoon to remain very much in the race for first place honors in the divisional race of Region Four. The Dino ray of hope actually came on Saturday afternoon when Spanish Fork turned back Spring-vill- e twice in a double-heade- r to throw the race wide open again. Carbons hopes rested with their encounter against this' same Spanish Fork team this past Tuesday on the Dons home field. A win for the Dinos would assure Coach Dennis Painters crew of no worse than a tie for divisional honors, possibly a three way tie, The game at Spanish Fork Tuesday the Dinos completed regular schedule, but Spanish Fork has a game to make up with American Fork and Springville has one with Payson. At the beginning of this weeks play Spanish Fork led the league with two losses while Carbon and Springville had three losses each. The first game each day will begin at 1 p.m. In the , opener last Saturday, Dixie scored at least once in every inning and Jim Padgett, a righthander from Granger High, shut out the Eagles on two hits. One CEU hit was a double by John Simmons and the other a single by Vincent Tone, but both came late in the shortened game, called after five innings under the rule. The CEU freshman hurler from Elko, Nev., pitched outstanding ball through the last five innings after the shaky start. The Eagle counted three times off Dave Butterfield, a g righthander, in the third frame on four hits and a Dixie throwing error. Kirk Rogerson, a Bonneville High graduate, came to the rescue of the tiring Butterfield in the sixth inning and slammed the door on any further Eagle hopes. A total of 19 blows were struck the second game, 10 hits by Dixie and nine by CEU, but not a single one went for extra bases. 7-- l, ten-ru- It Sun-Advoc- ate Dick Mitchell, Ronald Kosec ant Robert H. The Board discussed a proposal to delay the opening of the 1970 pheasant season until December 1. Proponents for the delay felt that it would help eliminate some of the sportsman-landowne- r problems associated with the pheasant hunt. Norm Hancock, chief of game management, spoke in opposition to the proposal, stating that lack of cover during that period would concentrate pheasants thus allowing hunters only limited hunting opportunities and the landowners compounding problems.
