Perhaps more to the point, and certainly of prime interest to investors, are the questions: Where will the power come from what will be the future sources of energy!' Are the nations utility comjwinies planning ahead for this inevitable increase in demam for power? Based on a survey of government sources and individual utilities, it would seem that the old reliables oil, coal, gas, hydro wii be with us for a long time as major power sources. It also seems likely that there will be a marked shift in the relative amount of power supplied by major sources. And, in the background, is the possibility that the forecasts will be upset by a major technological breakthrough in the development of exotic energy sources magnetohydrodynamics, to name one. Bituminous coal is expected to be the most important beneficiary of a changed energy picture in future years and will probably show a larger percentage increase than oil or natural gas. At its source, coal should be the lowest-pricefossil fuel for increased electric power generation during the 1970-8- 0 period, according to a report of the Fuels Special Technical Committee prepared for the Federal Power Commission. Petroleum and natural gas also will show important gains in the energy field but their percentage contributions to total consumption of fuel are expected to show a small decrease. Based on figures compiled by the U.S. Bureau of Mines, bituminous coal and lignite (low grade coal) furnished about 21.2 per cent of total 1962 energy consumption in this country of 47,872 trillion BTU. According to the recent annual forecast of Ebasco Services, Inc. (utility consultants and engineers), bituminous coal and lignite in 1980 will supply around 26.7 per cent of an estimated total of 82,300 billion BTU. The total for coal and lignite at 22,000 trillion BTU would be more than double the 1962 figure of 10,160 trillion. On the basis of figures gathered nationally, only about two out of every five of the vets have completed or are are now enrolled in some form of educational training. To be eligible for it, a veteran must have been in the armed forces, but not necessarily abroad, at some time betwen June 27, 1950, and January 31, 1955. lie must also have served 90 days unless discharged for a disability incurred while in service. Although fighting had virtually ceased by the end of 1952, the conflict continued to January 31, 1955, Congress has ruled. Statistics on veterans in the United States, and the education they have acquired, have been compiled by the Veterans Administration and by the N. Y. State Division of Vet- erans Affairs. Approximately 180 Korean veterans in Carbon County have enrolled for training since the GI Bill went into effect, it is estimated, based on the national figures. They represent about 41 percent of the 435 Korean vets counted by the Census Bureau in its 1960 tabulation. Of these, some 95 went to college, a number of them continuing on through graduate school to become engineers, doctors, dentists, teachers and the like. Others chose training in trade, industry and in the various crafts. They went to institutions below college level or took corresponding courses or went in for training. Time is running out on the educational program. There are only eight months left. Veterans who are now taking courses may have to double up in their classes, it is pointed out, to get finished before the deadline. Congress has set January 31, 1965, as date for the Korean program. the cut-of- f Carbon Countys veteran population, according to the latest official figures, consists of 213 who were in World War 1, 1,439 in World War H and 435 in the Korean War. Toothbrushing is the best way to remove particles of food and some of the bacteria before they can do their harm. Brushing should be done right after meals and right after snacks, too. Most people dont brush their teeth often enough, or well enough. , A survey made a few years ago of 1,000 American families found: Only 15 per cent brushed &A their teeth three times a day; About 50 per cent brushed their teeth twice a day; of the toothbrushes in use had bent or broken or matted bristles which had long outlived their usefulness.
