In a rather cynical vein, it might be mentioned that some of the businessmen who are so generous at Chamber of Commerce meetings with advice and suggestions about ways and means to keep money at home, appear mighty quick to send their money out of town, even if it means only a few dollars difference, for example about something we should know printing. We have yet to see a printer from Salt Lake City, Richfield, Idaho, or anywhere else spending this money in Price stores. WE ALL HAVE THEM Many Price retail merchants who are not at this time of the year doing their expected volume of business in the Eastern Utah area, seem to be in a state of shock. Most have beautiful stores, quality brands and fine merchandise. What they have forgotten, or do not care to remember, is the fact that Carbon county has lost about 18 per cent of its population since 1950, according to the federal census, and it is probably over 20 per cent by now. That means a fifth of the buying power. A lot of business is going over the hill to Salt Lake City merchants who supposedly offer more and better bargains to the gullible willing to pay car expense and time in an effort to get something for what they think is less. This newspaper does not believe we are in a depression area, but neither are we in an area of plush government defense plants, such as in Central and Northern Utah with thousands of federal employees holding up the economy with our tax dollars. Money is money ! We will have no defense plants and our governor seems to have little interest in helping our economical status, which centers around coal.
