SI- - I Somewhere along the line, jr v- - -- Team Wins It takes money to operate a goll course and since we reported the costs ol average maintenance at the Carbon Country club course last week we have been told that it takes a lot more than we re ported it to be. Mi be- tween the club manager, the reporter and the linotype operator, our figures were drastically reduced. The board ol directors, had they not known the actual tacts, might have lelt pretty good about our figures but the truth will out, as the saying goes, so we are obliged to account lor several dollars more in expenses accountable to the golf course. The average maintenance cost Cotm 'per hole lor the try club goll course during last summer was approximately $1230 (corrected figure). This figure, i nine-ho- le jt W' Carbon high schools Dinosaurs, sporting a sea son record of 19 wins and lour losses, will host Provo here Friday (tomorrow) night in a play-o- ll game that will determine which will enter the state Class A high school finals. This game, the decider to determine which of the two teams will gain a berth in the state Class A' high school finals, is being sponsored by the Utah High School Activities association and that school athletic governing body will handle all aspects of the contest including the collection of admissions. Reserve seats are on sale at Carbon college and at the . Carbon drug in Price. The Bulldogs clinched fourth place in the Big Eight competition last Tuesday by defeating the Davis Darts and the win qualified them to meet the Dinosaurs for a chance at a berth in The Dinothe state playoffs. saurs, playing on a free lance basis in basketball, were destined to meet the fourth place team of the Big Eight. However, this playoff was to be based on Carberth-decidi- ng ham Young high school team, one earlier game to Grand Junction and one to Cyprus. The playoff game will be played here because of a state ruling that alternates playoff games for Carbon on a home and away-fro- m to according Charles Jones Chapman ... B. Rayburn L. Rayburn .. Springville Cage Ruggeri, president ol the club, compares favorably with a summary released by Golfdom, the business journal of golf, wherein It was shown that a variation of from $965 to $4555 per hole existed for a national average outlay of $1885 per hole. Our figures were the same as these but we inadvertantly dropped in a decimal before the last two figures in each amount and as you can readily see, that padded the expense account considerably, even the figures of golfdom. Helper Tournament The Springville Safeway basketball team walked off with the winners trophy in the third annual Helper Kiwanis club tournament concluded at the Helper civic auditorium last Tltursday evening. In winning the championship, the Safeway boys 'defeated the Price Elks team by a 62-count. Keith Christensen, Safeway, poured in 24 points while Jimmy Thorn, also of Safeway, chosen the outstanding player in the meet, got 15, and teammate Paul Gottfredsen accounted for 17 tallies. Bracken Lee, an ardent sportsman himself, Saturday proclaimed the week of March 16-as National Wildlife Week in Utah and in so doing gave impetus to observances planned by sportsmens groups throughout the state. The governor stressed that all life is dependent on soil and water and said there is greater need for more intelligent planning to secure the greatest possible values from all resources. There is greater need for more intelligent planning of developments to secure the greatest possible values from all resources. Protection of the wildlife species, such as the native American key deer, which are rapidly becoming extinct, should be one of our fundamental responsibilities. The National Wildlife Federation, in sponsoring National Wildlife week, is doing much to teach the basic tenets on which the future of Americas soils, water and wildlife depends. The continued growth of human population forces us to give increasing atten as Wildlife Week tion to conservation until every American is aware of his vital dependence upon natural resources and acts intelligently to manage them. In recognition of the Importance of the preservation and conservation of our natural resources and wildlife, I am designating March 16 through 22, 1952, as National Wildlife Week in Utah, and I earnestly appeal to all of our citizens to Tecognize the importance of the problem of conservation of these assets In wildlife and to work with one accord for their protection and preservation, and to reflect upon Americas riches of natural resolurces and the importance to our future well-beiof perpetuating them. ng bons record and it turned out to be good enough for a playoff against the fourth place Big Eight team.
