Those who petitioned to have the state aeronautics director, conferred with county and college officials ruling of the industrial commission set aside are contract miners working for the Utah Fuel company at its Clear Creek mine. Before the contract under which they were working expired on March 31, 1939, negotiations were started for its renewal. No agreement had been reached on that date, and an extension agreement was entered into between employers and employees continuing indefinitely the terms of the old contract. It was provided that either party could terminate the extension agreement on 15 days notice. On April 19, the union notified the Utah coal operators that the extension agreement would be terminated and mining operations stop at midnight on May 4. Operations in the Clear Creek mine were suspended on Iug( Seven) Exhibit By Rosenbaum At Price Art Gallery Draws Wide Comment Winter, spring and fall scenes are featured in the Howell Rosenbaum exhibit, now on display at the Price community art gallery. His oils are done in brilliant colors, making them stand out in an attractive manner. His watercolors also stand out, as the colors blend to make them seem alive. In the showcase at the gallery are wood carvings done by Chinese laborers. Something unique in the way of art, the carvings have been drawing considerable comment. The gallery is remaining open from 8:00 a. m. to 8:00 p. m. daily during the summer, according to Jack Smith Jr., gallery director. Commodity Schedule For August Arranged Tuesday regarding establishment of courses of Carbon college in airplane mechanics and pilot training. Definite word has been received that the local airport cannot be approved for a federal training project, and new sites for an airport are now being studied. If arrangements can be made, it is hoped to begin on the new proposed site, not yet announced, within the next few days, and to begin work on the field and hangar. Mr. Bergin assured officials here that as soon as field and hangar are available in Price, Carbon college will be designated as a flight training school, and possibly extensive courses in flying and ground mechanics will be given. Application was made about a year ago by the college for flying and plane mechanics instruction courses here, but it was not until last week that definite word was received that the present county airport is not acceptable for this purpose. ADAMS REPORTS DISPOSITION OF CRIMINAL CASES A record of 42 convictions, 4 9 dismissals and two cases pending, in a total of 57 criminal prosecutions during the period July 1, 1938, to June 30, 1940, in district court of Carbon county is shown in the report to the state attorney generals office as prepared this week by Donald T. Adams, district attorney. The report is made by the district attorney each two years. Mr. Adams pointed out that the 57 prosecutions involved 20 different types of crime.
