Show THE PACE TWELVE allj? CARBON PRtCE. overcome by jumping to the other extreme the same group proposes, appointment of judges by the governor. Appointive power of the state executive has already been too greatly abused to extend this authority any more. It has Iteen repeatedly demonstrated that authority to appoint is simply increasing the opportunity for cultivating more machine politics and Utah has already had a sufficiency of that. Judges should be required to stand for election, they should, however, be elected on a nonpartisan basis. The move to deny the citizens of the state to elect judges is a move in the wrong direction, a step leading away from democracy and pointing to more centralized authority where control by a small element of society is too easily attained. The people of this state need more democracy and less domination by bosses of the political wardheeling type. Appointment of is the governor judges by entirely out of line with the movement being made by Utah citizens toward more representative government the attainment of which is reflective of the desires of the people. mt-Aiuuir- ati' Cost One "One Neuipaper, One Courage, Issued Every Thursday By The COUNTY PUBLISHING COMANY UNDER UTAH, THE 3.
