Locals Determined From a local standpoint, the home town team is prepared to give the invaders a good account. Recently, the lost to Beckers in one of the most important games of the Carbon independent league. As a result, they are anxious to retain their standing, if even against a team not affiliated locally. Practices have been held this week and inside information has it that they are in fine fettle. This is to be the tenth consecutive tour of the Roamers, in which they are including eight states of the intermountain region. They feature a fast clean brand of basketball and are by sessions of experience. Their record, hung up at the end of last season, is 500 games, with 428 won and 72 lost. First Victory This marks the first win sustained by the locals since the Christmas holiday playings, and gives them their first opportunity to instigate a comeback. In three previous games, they went down into the merk of defeat, apparently touched bottom and are now on their way back to the top and sectional honors, which should be harder than usual to attain, because of their late start on the come-bac- k trail. Carbon Leads Carbon held the upper hand throughout the fray, and while a number of their shots were raggedly tossed, maintained the offense of the battle throughout the four quarters. They were able to start faster than the Green River unit, and while num-erosubstitutions were called, played a better brand of ball than had been seen here for some time. Hurried firing caused the locals to lose possible scores they could have added, had they been a bit more careful. Ross Outstanding The visiting aggregation was said to have been slower and easier to pierce than was anticipated. Ross, forward, was the outstanding player, leading his team and making seven of the nine points. He was said to have been the only player who offered any degree of competition. Allred was high point man for Carbon with seven markers. Stones was second with six. Score at the half was 21 to 8, Green River making only one score on a personal foul shot, in the second half of the game. Early this week, a large amount of water was added and in some places the ice is now more than six inches thick. Only drawback, is that air seeps under and causes pockets, and when pressure is exercised, the ice breaks.
