There is a hierarchy of eating habits in most homes. Husbands tend to influence their wives, and mothers tend to influence their children. Welfare programs that dont recognize this may be missing the mark. Nutritionists are especially interested in improving the diets of 1 year old children, because these are critical years in theirphysi-ca- l and mental development, according to Carol Windham, nutritionist in the Utah State University College of Family Life. - Education plays an important role in better diets. For instance, children living in households headed by women with 8 years of education or less, consumed more cholesterol, and vitamin 2 than average and lower vitamin A and a pattern carotene than average characteristic of higher intake of animal products and lower intake of fruits and vegetables. The exact opposite trends occurred in households headed by -t- o-five women with more than eight years of education. In households with a male head of the family, children tended to consume morecholesterol and fewer carbohydrates than average. The message for public health is to educate mothers and to improve their diets if you want to improve the diets of children. and vegetables are always good snack accompaniments. My child never eats vegetables. Everyone dislikes certain foods. The one-bit- e policy is a good one. Set guidelines to discourage fussing over certain foods. Children can learn they can eat foods they dont particularly like without gagging, choking and yelling, Oh! Gross!!. It takes time for a child to be enthusiastic about a new food. But with continual exposure and a positive role model, they often grow to like it. It may work to feed a child vegetables at the first of a meal, when he is the hungriest. Nutritious dips often sell vegetables to a child. My child is always snacking, yet she never seems to finish a meal. Children have small stomachs. Offering them 6 small meals succeeds better than 3 meals a day. When we eat isnt nearly so important as what we eat Nutritious snacks would be good to offer midmoming or afternoon.
