The First electrically lit Christmas tree was unveiled in the New York City home of a colleague of Thomas Alva Edison. It featured 80 hand wired and hand blown colored bulbs in red, white and blue, turning slowly on a pedestal. The first electrically lit trees cost the equivalent of thousands of dollars today, but the public quickly realized the benefits of electric light. facturing miniature bulbs and by 1901 they were advertising that the danger ever present with candle lit trees had been entirely removed with the new electric light system. Turn of the century wiremen, or electricians would hand wire each bulb together in a time consuming process, then wire the contraption into an overhead light fixture to provide electricity. It wasnt until 1903 that ready made strings of wiring were sold along side packages of miniature General Electric bulbs. manu- Contemporary light sets are a far cry from the 1882 version. Of course, the reason is that special feelings emulated from our Savior and his love for all of us. Those folks who are really happy and enjoy the holidays are those found serving and giving of themselves to others. Those folks who are unhappy, distraught, and generally feeling negative about life and others, do not enjoy the holidays. In fact, its a miserable, terrible time for them. They are the Scrooges who have a cloud around them, feel bad for themselves and generally succeed in making life miserable for themselves and for those around them. It is very observable at the Care Center to see those who are enjoying service and giving of themselves to others. Many folks go outside of themselves to lift and bring light and joy to their fellowmen. I see this in our employees and especially in our residents. Many of these wonderful people, though burdened with personal physical problems are so actively engaged in service to others. They are giving of themselves and bringing happiness to those around them and to their own heart. There are many stories like this about our residents and employees as they help and lift each other through personal service. For your elderly loved ones happiness at Christmas time, let them serve. Let them give of themselves, and feel that true Spirit of Christmas. 528-336- 5 r Come in and see our full line of Maytag Appliances and register to win a Crosley 19 Color TV with remote!
