In it, a little girl finds a picture of a baby. Her mother tells her that the baby used to live in their house. The little girls asks, Where did the baby go? And they walk around the house looking for the baby who used to play in the kitchen and used to take baths in the big tub and used to nap in the nursery. All the while, the girl keeps asking, Where did the baby go? Yesterday, my husband had me looking for the baby who used to live in our house. Ruels an organizer. Id hoped it was just a difficult stage he was going through, but since its lasted the last twenty years of our marriage, Ive come to accept that its probably permanently attached to his personality. This affliction caused him to categorize all the cassette tapes thrown in the back of our stereo closet, many of which . weren t labeled. He played a little of each one so he could decide whether to keep it, and thats when I heard the baby. It was a pretty dusty tape, but itwasdcfinitclythebaby. Itcried. It I ysssssjvss.. Home and School: Vital Links by LILY ESKELSEN President, Utah Education Association cooed. Then it sang the ABCs. Then it told the store of the Twee Billy Goats Gwuff who went twip, twip, twop over the twolls bwidge. You know, Id forgotten how many times Id told that story to that baby. So often that hed memorized it, translated into his own language, of course. Wed taught that baby Take Me Out to the Ball Game and half the songs from Mary Poppins and the Star Spangled Banner. How could that baby have learned all those songs? Where did two working parents find the time to sing all those songs over and over and over until they were learned and loved? And do we take the same time with that baby now? Twelve apply for vacancy on District School Board In a show of what school board president Jcrold Johnson called tremendous interest, twelve applications for the Precinct One board vacancy were submitted last week. Johnson said he and fellow board members, with the help of district officials, narrowed the applicants to four who will be interviewed this week. One will be selected and sworn in at the December 10 school board meeting. Utah law states that boards of education have 30 days to fill such vacancies. The position became vacant officially at the November meeting when David Blackwell accepted employment in Emery County and submitted his resignation. He had served for five and a half years, including a term as president. Blackwells resignation and the defeat of Kirk Rasmussen, Precinct Five board member in the primary election, means that the board will begin the new year with two new members. Tom Hales of Redmond will be sworn in at the January board meeting to represent Precinct Five. The new board members will be expected to attend training sessions, Utah school Boards Association convention in January, a board retreat planned for later in the winter, as well as the regular meetings of the Sevier District School Board. The evidence of time spent with our babies will fill our homes and fill our hearts. Well treasure their tiny voices, the first steps and toothless grins. But those babies grow up while were not looking. Well think theyre gone. Well think they dont need us anymore, But they do. Theyll need every bit as much attention, as much time and as much love as when we could throw them in the air and catch them with our strong, sure hands. My baby blew out 16 candles on his birthday cake this week. And is I listened to the tape recorded so long ago, I had to wonder, Where did the baby go? And I had to hope that hed let me go with him just a little bit further. Just far enough for me to make sure I can always find him. And he can always find me. Basketball team will play first two games this week NSHS Girl's Girls basketball will get underthis week for the North Sevier way school high program. They will play two games this week to start off their schedule. The teams are under the direction of Lexa Larsen this year and she is excited to be working with the girls that made the team. There are sixteen varsity and JV team members and 13 freshmen. The freshmen xam kept all that tried out but she had to cut five from those trying out for the varsity and JV squad. Larsen feels good about the team this year. She explained that she has lots of talent but little basketball experience returning from last years team. Also there was not a Freshmen team last year that pro duces a gap in the program where experience means a lot from year to year. They are a very small team this year as they are pushing to have a person 5 9" but we are quick and we will capitalize on our speed this year, said Larsen. The girls will play tuesday in Castle Dale and Friday against Delta in Delta. Larsen is nervous about Emas ery they have already had four under their belt this season. games They are also a 3A school and have some tall girls that are very talented playing this year. So the pressure will be on the girls from North Sevier to see their fast game in action. against Emery Delta has a good team but are not the powerhouse in basketball as they are in volleyball and other sports. They should have a good all around team though but North Sevier should match up well with them. North Seviers first home match will be on December 16, Wednesday, against Millard, a very strong, talented team this year. This is their only home game in December for the girls program so the public is invited to come out and support the team this year. Larsen explained that the players are very eager and willing to become winners this year which is important for a program that has struggled under a variety of coaches in the past few years. A good attitude will go along ways said Larsen.
