I am proud of you - and this organization. Loa District Ranger, Gary Laing, also thanked everyone for the excellent work done toward improving one of the more heavily used areas on the Fishlake Forest. Work accomplished during the day included: Cleaning nearly half a mile of Lakeshore National Recreational Trail south of the Fishlake Lodge. This is a new section of trail that is being constructed to extend the trail from Fishlake Lodge to Lakeside Resort. This involved tree cutting and rock removal. In addition, about 25 tons of gravel base was spread on portions that had previously been cleared. Completion of this section will add a vital link in the National Recreation Trail so it can extend all along the west shore from Lakeside Resort to Bowery Haven. Thirteen tent pads were cleared out and constructed in Doctor Creek, Mackinaw, and Bowery Creek Campgrounds. posts that identify camp unit 130 numbers were replaced and straightened; plumbing of several restrooms several large truckloads of slash and tree trimmings were cleared and removed from around several campgrounds and the ranger station. At the ranger station, three of the dwellings and one out building were scraped and prepared for painting. These buildings were built by the CCC during the depression. Several years ago, the city had participated in county dog control program, for a fee of $300 for one year. They had felt during that time that nothing much was done by the county to enforce the ordinances, so the following year they voted not to be included in the program again. This past year, the county made the same proposal to the city - for a fee of $300 they would take care of the animal control problems for the town. If they made a lot of contacts, wrote a lot of citations, etc., and picked up lots of dogs, they might possibly use up the $300, and then would have to start billing Aurora for their services. On the other hand, if they did not use up the $300 during the year, then that leftover amount could be retained by the city. They decided to give it another try. Because the county is now doing the enforcing of the laws, the ordinances to be obeyed are those of Sevier County - and Aurora City Council recently adopted the County Animal Control Ordinance. One omission from the county ordinances, is the kennel permit. The Council felt that there should be no kennels in Aurora, so omitted that section from the new ordinance. We would rather have control over how many dogs can be at each household, said Kent Freeman, secretary of the Council. Because of the distance between county officers and Aurora, townspeople who have problems with dog - or animal control, are to call Leonard Scott, of Aurora, who is authorized to pick up the animal. He will contain it until the county deputy arrives. At that time, if the deputy feels a citation is necessary, he will write one up and deliver to the animal owner. He will also impound the animal if necessary. Seventy-fiv- e percent of fines collected will go to Sevier County the balance to Aurora. The main points of the new ordinance are that: No animals shall be at large (away from their home property), unless they are on leash or in control of their owner. No more than three dogs will be allowed per household. All dogs must be licensed after six months of age - by March 3 1 , of each year. The fees for licensing have also gone up. Unaltered dog licenses will be $15, and altered dogs, $10. The ordinance applies to all animals, birds, reptiles - anything other than the species of Man. Other requirements of the ordinance include: Animals shall be humanely treated at all times. Premises shall be kept clean and sanitary and not constitute a fly breed- ing reservoir, source of odor, or of human or animal disease; Animals or premises shall not be permitted to disturb the peace or constitute a public nuisance or hazard. It is unlawful for anyone to put out poisoned foods for the purpose of killing domesticated animals. It is unlawful to maintain a place where any animals are suffered to fight upon exhibition for sport or wager; Dogs must have rabies immunizations before licensing. Female dogs in heat must be in that will prevent the attraction of male dogs to the vicinan enclosure ity. Possession of a vicious dog is unlawful unless it is restrained, confined or muzzled so that it can't bite or attack any person or animals. ) The entire Ordinance (No. is on file at the Aurora City Office, or at the Aurora Post Oft ice, or Karens Korner. The purposeof the ordinance is to hopefully find a happy medium that will keep both those who like dogs and those who don't - satisfied. 1992-6-22- deer permits okayed areas 500 for bum-damag- ed In an emergency move to harvest more deer from two burn areas in northern Utah, the Board of Big Ga e control has authorized an additional 500 deer permits. If you ve ever spent time picking burs from your socks or pets fur after a walk, you know what houndstongue is. This week continues to cause unrecognized horse and cattle death every year, said Clell Bagley, USU Extension veterinarian. The plant, Cynoglossum officinale, is seldom grazed but is present in some hayfields. Livestock most commonly consume the weed after it is accidentally mixed with hay.
