Dec. 11, 1991 Care Care , Senior Citizen Highlights Leeon Cars dont take kindly to cold starts, short trips and stop and go operation when the thermometer drops into the teens or below. While we cant do much about the w eather, there are a few things we can do to Christensen The Advisory Council met December 5th, and planned the upcoming Christmas Social. The menu will include Ham loaf with a mustard sauce, stuffed potatoes and rolls. This will be done under the supervision of Mrs. Sittre. Those attending the dinner are asked to bring a vegetable plate, salads, or desserts. There are some Seniors that would appreciate salads or desserts. A some sugar-fre- e few red and green set salads would help at Christmas time. Helen Shaw has donated a tree which will be put up and decorated for the Dinner. The next Blood Pressure Clinic will be held January 9th at 1 1 a.m. at the Center. Menu for the following week includes: Thursday - Gumbo Joe, potato salad, baked beans, apricots, cake, milk, juice. Friday - Hot beef sandwich, tossed green salad, mixed vegetables, Apple Brown Betty, milk, juice. Tuesday - Baked Ham, baked potato with sourcream, buttered peas, peaches, fruit cake, bread, butter, milk, juice. Wednesday - Clam chowder, fish fillets, lemon and orange wedges. Joe Johnson, Salina Youth Council Mayor, attended the meeting and discussed the Councils drive for Food for the Needy. The group is seeking non perishable food items which may be deposited at the Salina Library, in boxes set up for that purpose, or to Brent White at the Utah Independent Bank. Church and community leaders are also making collections and families will be carefully selected to assure that there is no duplication nor omission of the needy. It is planned to deliver the food after December 21. SIG and the Youth Council have joined other community groups in the Toys for Tots drive, also clothing for children. Those items may be delivered to Brent Whi te at Utah Independent Bank before Decem ber 20, for delivery a few days later. The total number of families to be helped in this area hasnt yet been determined. Should there be an excess of donations, whether food, toys, or clothing, it will be given to the Social Services office. Interest was expressed in restoring the ice skating rink at the East end of Main Street. Joe Johnson will discuss the idea with Mayor Andreason, asking the City Councils approval and the Fire Departments help in initially filling the area with water, and rewatering as necessary to assure a smooth skating surface. Joe and the Youth Council will be working closely with the young people who have done such a good job of clearing Main Street of weeds. In order that everyone may recover from the holidays, the next SIG meeting will be deferred until January 9. teleconference on Agricultural subjects Life Clyde Hurst Utah State University agricultural economics specialists will be discussing the economic outlook for various commodities for 1992 in a live teleconference over the EdNet system on Thursday, December 12. Area interchanges will finally get lighting After repeated delays extending over two years, interchanges can identify the off ramps easily at on two interstate highways in southern Utah will finally get lighting. The $423,452 project was contracted to Hamilton Brothers Electric, of Springville, and should be completed by December 3 1. Other lights will be relocated. Lighting will be installed on near Sigurd; the Sevier Junction; Richfield; and the west ramp near Salina; Interchanges near other areas and in Iron county Scipio, will get lighting. There will be 66 new lights.
