With sports, music programs, dances, and other events going on, it's leaving students very little time to Christmas shop. Last week started off the new sports season with the four basketball games and two wrestling events within three days. On Thursday, 5th, the girls basketball team went to Millard where they played a close game and won. game and lost. That same day the wrestlers travelled to Beaver and a special Drama Club meeting was held. Friday, the 6th , the wrestlers were off again and the boys' basketball team played in Millard, losing after another close game. Saturday, 7th, the girls played Beaver, here, while the boy's played San Juan, also here. The girls easily won their game, but the boys struggled a bit to win theirs. There was a "Snow Ball' Dance after the boys' varsity game that night. Also the drill team was at competition over the weekend, where they brought home a third place ranking in the Prop category. This week's events start on Thursday again, as wrestling will be here against Delta. JV action will be at 5:30 p.m. and Varsity at 7 p.m. Although Friday will be "Friday the 13th there are many events planned for that day. The girls basketball team will take the long ride to Kanab to play their third game of the season. The Wrestlers will head for a Tournament in Piute, and any students interested in going will leave after school to attend the opening productionofTheNutcracker." Also on that day the North Sevier High teachers will find out whether or not they will be working here next year. The nextday, Saturday, 14th, there will be a boys baksetball game in the North Sevier High School Gym. They wil be playing Beaver. On Tuesday, 17th, there will be the High School Christmas Music Program, free of charge at 8 p.m. in the high school Auditorium. Finally, now's the time to sign up for the Alumni Basketball tournament which will be held on the 27th, and 28th of this month. See related story in the SUN. Courtney Christensen signs with Thunderbirds A preseason high school womens allAmerican basketball player has signed a national letter of intent to attend Southern Utah University next fall. Courtney Christensen, a 58" senior guard at North Sevier High School, has signed with the Lady Thunderbirds, according to SUU Coach, Larry Shurtliff. Christensen has been named to Street and Smith magazines Preseason Team. Last season, as a junior, Christensen averaged 23 points (with a high of 38 points and a low of 18) for the Wolves. She also participated as a distance runner on the NSHS Track Team and played volleyball for the Wolves. Courtney is a 4.0 student as well as excellent athlete, said Shurtliff. She can shoot, and she is an excellent defensive player. We are very pleased to have her commit to use for next season. Courtney will complete her senior year at North Sevier High this season under Coach David Gray. Because of the size of the studentbody, the program has been divided into three different nights. Each program will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the North Sevier High School Auditorium. Schedule is as follows: King, Maranda Shaw, Ryan Whitlock, Jake Bastian, Meladie Fillmore, Nathan Hallows, Heather Mason, Craig Thurston, and Richard Willis. North Sevier Middle School students are working on a planned drama The Salt Lake Tribune announced of football allstaters and Lance Mickelsen was on their first team. Lance played this year as an offensive receiver and had consistant games in that position. He ammased some big yard gains for the Wolves as well as consistant small yard gains for ball control. Lance is a senior at North Sevier this year and is presently on the varsity basketball team. its three teams Christensen, Ruth Hcnrie, Mika Inouye, Justen Mellor, Rebecca Anne Titze; Mayfield - Travis Good, Natasha Swenson. Whos Who is the largest high school recognition publication in the country. Students are nominated by high school principals and guidance counselors, national youth groups, churchesorby the Educational Communications Company based upon students performance in scholarship contests or extracurricular activities. Traditionally, 99 of students earning the honor have a grade point average of B or better, and 97 plan to attend college. j Snow College Enrollment is at all time record ' If records truly are made to be broken then the student body at Snow College is doing a fantastic job of rewriting the enrollment records in Ephraim, Utah. One month after school started the official numbers are finally settling down. Those numbers show there are 2,158 students enrolled at Snow College this fall. Thats up 286 students from fall quarter of 1990. The increase of more than is a clear message to Snow 15 College President Gerald Day, What this means to me is the value of Snow College is being recognized by more and more people all the time. Last falls total of 1,872 was a new record number of students for Snow. It marked an increase of 138 students over the previous year. The increase of 286 students this fall more than doubled that amount and sent the total soaring past the 2,000 mark without even slowing down. In the past four years enrollment at Snow has expanded by 644 students, for an average annual growth rate of nearly The increase in students can be looked at in several different ways. The smallest increase in students was actually made by new freshmen on campus, with a total of 84. They were outdistanced by the number of students who chose to continue their education at Snow 10. The largest increase in numbers came through the continuing education programs at Snow College. The total number of students enrolled in continuing education program at Snow this fall is 290. Day said,...this is a good measurement to show that Snows involvement in surrounding communities is increasing. A large percentage of the gain came from Gunnison where classes have been initiated during the past year for inmates and employee of the Central Utah Correctional Facility. I think we are serving about 40 inmates and 20 employees at the prison, said Mel Jacobsen, Director of Extension Service and Continuing Education, and that is all new since the fall quarter last year. While everyone watches the enrollment growth in Ephraim, Snow College Officials have a special interest on a different set of numbers. President Day said that if the college continues this growth it will need more housing next year. Salina Elementarys project to save Campbell Soup labels this year has begun, and chairing the year- Music teachers keep busy during holiday Music Teachers in the Sevier School District are keeping busy during December as they ready students for holiday presentations of what theyve been practicing since Halloween. In the high schools, musical groups are often asked to provide programs for clubs and private parties, giving their Christmas repertoire a definite workout.
