Show 12 Thft Saljpfl Sun. Wrd Dec. 4. 1991 Wolves squeak by dogs in st 1 The North Sevier Wolves traveled to Gunnison last week for their season opener and coach Craig Gladwell described it as a wakeup call for the Wolves! Gladwell explained that Gunnison was taller, more aggressive, quicker and played with more intensity than they have in the past few years. They will be a lot more competitive this year because of these improvements, said Gladwell. North Sevier has been working on fundamentals and to the attributes to mesh together as a team. We are just getting ready to play said Gladwell. He stated that during the first game of the season they try to cover a little bit of everything they see in game so they are not unprepared. Gunnison had already played a game so they had a little bit of an advantage to work some of the kinks out first. Gunnison beat Bryce Valley at Bryce Valley so that had to have an impact, beating a pretty good team on their home court. North Sevier did not start off with a bang against Gunnison but they did work out a lead of 10-- 3 before Gunnison woke up and narI think our bigrowed it to 10-gest problem was not showing patience that we hope to develop with our offense , said Gladwell. We pushed the kids to be patient but we just didnt seem to be able to do it. New kids. First game jitters. Young kids playing. It will take some time, he continued. The Wolves started the game with Nathan Hallows, Lance Mick-elseRyan Roberts, Scott Anderson, and Jermony Ivie. Nathan is the only returning starter from last year. Lance was the sixth man last year. Rhelt Hallows and Juryman Kjar also came in but they were young and inexperienced. But they played very well. I was encouraged after the first game with these players, said Gladwell. Some rough play also continued through the second quarter but the Wolves found themselves ahead 29-2- 4 at the half. The Wolves didnt shoot all that bad but more than anything it was the turnovers plagued them. The final numbers had North Sevier with 1 1 turnovers and only four for Gunnison. A factor and that kept Gunnison in the 9. n, game. Halftime talks centered around being more patient in their shoot Bull- - 36-3- 1. This was a big win fa the Wolves early in the season as it was a region match along with a tough win said coach George Chappell. The team does have some experience but they also have their fair share of inexperienced younger wrestlers. The following wrestled in the North 103 Sevier-Richfie- ld match: Aaron Poulson lost by a decision 112 MattTorgerson pinned his man. 119 pinned his man. On Saturday the team traveled to Piute for a four team round robin tournament with Manti, Cedar City, North Sevier and Piute. The Wolves finished the tournament with wins over Manti and Cedar City but lost to Piute in the final round. Chappell explained that this is a good tournament this early in the year as it shows kids they are not in shape. North Sevier wrestled well at this tournament, even better than against Richfield. They learned something against Richfield and got over the first match jitters, said Chappell. The team scans fa Nath Sevier and ranchers season game ing. Gladwell explained that he wanted them to pass the ball more, running more through the offense longer and waiting for the better shots. But things didnt change much in the third quarter for North Sevier. It was a rivalry game and it is hard to make adjustments in the middle of the game. And so things didnt change much. In fact Gunnison pulled ahead late in the game to lead by three before Nathan Hallows put in a three pointer to tie it with 30 seconds left at 44-4Gunnison then brought the ball down the court and stalled looking for 4. the last shot. This backfired on them as they were called for traveling and lost the ball with five seconds left giving North Sevier the last shot, one they didnt make. In overtime Gunnison got the tip and stalled the ball as they tried to work in close fora good shot. The Bulldogs missed their shot but North Sevier didnt do any better as they missed their chance right after. Gunnison shot next and it looked like a bad break for North Sevier as they got a shooting foul called against them putting Gunnison atthe line with only 1 1 seconds left to play. Both teams missed a lot of foul shots this night but it was Gunnisons turn to miss again as they missed both foul shots. Nathan Hallows rebounded the second shot and threw a long pass to Rhett Hallows who put it up but missed the close in shot. Ryan Roberts got the rebound and put it in for the win. Gunnison called time out with one second on the clock and it was Farmers and ranchers at odds with their lenders fan avoid costly court fees by turning to the Utah Agriculture Mediation Program. The drought, low commodity prices and decreasing land prices have all contributed to financial obstacles for agricultural producers, according to Van Burgess, deputy commissioner of agriculture at the Utah State Department of Agriculture. enough time for one desperation shot but the score stayed at 46-4- 4 for North Sevier. Gunnison and North Sevier did not do too well in shooting. Gunnison was 1847 shots in the 2 point area. North Sevier shot only 19 of 31. North Sevier was 211 and Gunnison was 18 in the three point range. Nathan and Jeromy Ivie had the two three point shots. In the foul category Gunnison had 14 fouls compared to North Seviers The program was established in 1988 to provide a chance for bor- rowers and lenders to work out their problems through a neutral state mediator, Burgess added. Clair Acord, with more than 50 years experience in Utah agriculture, serves as state mediator. His role as mediator places him in a neutral third party position. All financial decisions are made by the borrow and lender and all discussions are kept confidential. A $25 per hour fee is charged to both borrower and lender once medication begins - but all initial meetings with the state arbitrator are at no cost. The mediation program is primarily designed to help farmers and ranchers who are having difficulty working with their lenders. Bruce Godfrey, USU Extension farm management specialist and member of the mediation advisory board says that no one should wait until a sheriffs sale is scheduled to get this low cost help. If you find yourself getting in trouble, you need to get help early on, he added. 16. Gladwell stated that it is still early in the season and they would be waking on the offense to sharpen it up. He stated they are still at a point in the season and with such a young team that they will be practicing the basics. Blocking out on the rebounds was another problem that surfaced in the game. We let them have too many 2nd rebounds offensively, said Gladwell. North Sevier had 30 rebounds to Gunnisons 21. Turnovers, ball handling and gaining confidence, all things that will come with experience and more practicing time. North Sevier will play Millard away on Friday and San Juan home on Saturday. Millard has a young team after graduating all last year so Gladwell will expect what they have done in the past San Juan has a lot of players back from a good team last year. They are fast and aggressive with a 64" center back in side from last years team. They should be a good team early in the season said Gladwell.
