Show Sevier County's 1991 budget rings up a total of $4,373,833 from County expenditures general operating funds will total an estimated S355 million in 1991, according loan analysis ofcounty budgets prepared by Utah Foundation, the private lax research organialion. The 1991 county Puppet show will be held Everyone loves a puppet show, and area residents will be treated to some puppet shows on Thursday and Friday afternoon beginning at 1 :30 p.m. at the Salina City Park. Presenting the puppet shows will be a youth group from Faith Baptist Church, Longmont, CO. The group is here helping with the work on the New Faith Baptist Church, in Salina, according to Pastor Jonathan Edwards. Also planned are other teen activities throughout the week. They will be doing some work at the camp, as well. The seventeen teens will be here for a week. District Board of Education to meet The Sevier School District Board of Education will hold their monthly meeting August 8, 1991 a 3 p.m. at Red Hills Middle School. Anyone with questions or concerns for the District is welcome to attend. time to egister at NSHS Still Any student planning to attend North Sevier High School this fall who has not registered yet should come to the High School between August 12 and August 16, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. If you cant come at that time, call the school at 529-3- 7 17 to make arrangements for another time. Pre-scho- ol orientation sessions set orientation sessions are being planned by district middle schools to help sixth graders make the transition from elementary to middle school status. North Sevier Middle School sixth graders and parents will meet with student advisors from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14. Seventh and eighth graders and their parents will also have preschool conferences, set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, August 15. Pre-scho- ol County Fair Farm Bureau Talent Find Sevier County Fair Farm Bureau Talent Find competition will be held Saturday, August 10, from 5 to 7 p m. at the fairgrounds. County winners will go on to competition to be held at the Utah State Fair in September. The Farm Bureau Talent Find is the largest amateur talent competition in the state. The public is invited to attend. Morning & afternoon clinic sessions During the month of August the Central Utah District Health Department will hold its immunization in both the morning and afternoon hours. Clinics will be held at the Salina American Legion Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 1:30 a.m., and from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The afternoon hours will be held through August only. budget total represents an increase 10 from the amount budgeted during the preceding (1990) calendar year. The study notes that the average increase in county budgets this year is about twice that of the current inflation rate. Property taxes continue as the major revenue source for county governments in Utah. This year, properly taxes imposed for general county purposes are expected to total $151 million - about 42.7 of all county general operating revenues. Foundation analysts point out that county governments have a more limited revenue base than do municipalities in the state. Utah law allows cities and towns to impose a utility franchise tax, but counties do not have this taxing authorities. Counties do impose a local sales tax, however the tax does not apply in areas of the county already being taxed by a city or town. Last year a total of $101 million in local sales tax was allocated to cities and towns, but only $21 million to counties throughout Utah. The budget for Sevier County indicates that revenue will total $4,373,833 in 1991. This includes: $$2,064,728 from property tax $150,000 from sales tax $0 from other taxes $12,500 from licenses - permits $425,000 from federal aid $692,500 from state aid $58,605 from local funds $339,000 from service charges $330,500 from Fines - forfeitures - .$0 from contributions transfers $301,000 from other revenues. Last year the property tax rate for county purposes in Sevier County of S32.6 million, or -- Be sure was .02846. thirds of all expenditures budgeted by the 29 counties in Utah. Pcrcapitu county expenditures in Utah range from a high of $ 1 ,257 in Daggett County to a low of $70 in Utah County, with an average of S206 per person throughout the slate. The largest expenditure categories for county governments in Utah are general government, streets and public improvements, law enforcement, and public health and welfare. Due to staff reductions and increased workload demands, UDOT is no longer able to provide engihighneering services for non-staIf the policy is way projects. adopted, local government units will be required to design and manage highway construction projects through either their engineering staffs or consulting engineers. All projects would still go through a review by UDOT to comply with federal funding requirements. The Transportation commission will be given a list of projects UDOT office, which must be completed prior to meeting with the Board. Any opinion of value must have some documentation to substantiate the claim. Completion of the form will help have all the necessary information ready for the boards examination. Pam Hendrickson, County Assessor says that the Board of Equalization will meet Thursday or Friday, August 15 or 16th, from 10 a.m. to Noon and from 2 to 4 p.m. to hear complaints. Fair With Fair Time rapidly approaching, the Sanpete County Fairboard in cooperation with Richfield Coca Cola and KMTI Radio are proud to announce the appearance of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band as part of the 1991 Sanpete County Fair. Tickets have been on sale since August 1 at locations throughout Sanpete and Sevier Counties. There are still excellent seats available d but they are going fast. The expects this years concert to be sold out prior to their Tuesday, August 20 performance. There will be two performances at Snow College, Ephraim, at 7 Fair-boar- p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Local recording artists Ronnie Mark Petersen will be featured as the opening act at this years concert. From Delta, Mark is rapidly receiving recognition and praise as one of the finest country and western entertainers to emerge from Central Utah.
