Show 2 Thu $ahna Sun Thura , May 29 1986 Dont make a pm u trv stupid mistake! High school graduation is here. It's a great time. The seniors have been working hard for twelve years to attain this goal. For some the struggle was hard and they spent long hours at the books, while others fairly graduation party. Our spirits are high the adrenalin is pumping. We feel that we're at the top. Nothing can stop us now! But the decisions we make or don't make at that grad blow can affect the entire remainder of our lives. Seniors, go on to that party you've earned it. But play the game smart. Don't drink and drive, and don't get high on drugs. There are plenty of seniors who want to party but don't need or want booze or drugs to help them reach that high. They will take you home if you need it, because they're the ones who will be remembering a dread, grim graduation breezed through their classes. High school was full of dreams, plans, and goals. Getting that high school diploma was one of them. Some will greet graduation, excitedly, looking forward to the next step - perhaps college, that job. or marriage and family. Most of us can look back on our own graduation. Whewl We made ill What a relief I I've got that diploma in my hand! Hallelujah! It's only natural that we want to celebrate achieving such a major milestone in our lives. But sometimes there is too muich of the graduation spirit, and every year the pages of newspapers nationwide are blackened by the news of grads, or their friends, who didn't make it home after that I ESP: wbat we claim to have whenever weve guessed correctly. I was visiting the people down at Zions Bank last week when they brought up the subject of "bad days. After hearing about some of their so called bod days, I had to admit that bank employees come dose to having some of the worst days around. They laughed a little and then gave me the following bit of information explaining that when they were having a bad day they read the real definitions of a bad when... a bad day You call a phone number on the mens restroom wall and your wife answers. -- You want to put on the clothes you wore to the party last night, and there arent any. From left. Thanks Not satanistic Dssr Editor: The completely ridiculous and false story about our moon and stars trademark has been resurfacing in some areas, so we are coming to ask your help in squelching it. It is the same lie that waa spread in 1961-8- 2 and again in 198485 namely the false allegation that Procter and Gambles moon and stars trademark is a aatanicaloccult symbol which signifies some connection with satanism or devil worship. Some have also erroneously claimed that the president of Procter and Gamble appeared on s talk show to discuss the Companys connection with satanism. There is absolutely no truth in any of this. Our moon and stars trademark is more than 100 years old and represents only P&G - this trademark was the outgrowth of an early P&G product called Star candles. The Procter & Gamble Co. has been serving the American public for 149 years, and nothing is more important to us than the integrity of our business and the quality of our products. We filed lawsuits in 1962 and 1965 against a number of people who were intentionally spreading this lie, and will do so again if necessary. Frankly, we thought we had the spread of these falsehoods under control after the broadscale media attention given to the problem in 1962 and again in 1965. Unfortunately the stories have been resurfacing and taking on a new life in some areas. Calls and letters from your area have increased sharply in recent weeks. When this happens, we believe the best way to deal with the situation is to ask for your help in getting the truth to those people who may be contributing unwittingly to the further spread of this outrageous lie. We welcome any assistance you can provide in getting the facts out to the public. If you have any questions or would like more information, please call us at Sincerely, Linda L. Ulrey Jason Flora, Ann Marie Jensen, Sandi Reynolds, and Jerry Johnson. They received their awards at last week's Athletic Honors Banquet. Cinderella was great! Dear Editor: The American Legion Boy Scout Troop 636 waa started in July 1962. Salina Legion Post 36 loaned the group $200 to get started. Hie loan was paid back in August 1963. At that time 14 boys were registered. There were 8 adults registered, with Jerry H ansen. Scoutmaster. It was decided at the atari thati this troop would be self supporting. These young men have worked very hard. They have sold gift wrap, held spaghetti dinners, cake auctions to earn money. Their main projects have been cleaning the SUFCo mine road and selling fireworks every 4th of July. Their fireworks' stand is totally independent from any other firework stand or booth. This year plans are being made for the boys to build their own building. Thia project requires a lotyof help from the parents. ThereVre also Legion and Auxiliary members without boys involved in the troop who always help out. They are greatly appreciated. The money they earn each year pays for each member's registration, and our share of the Sustaining Membership Enrollment. They also make a contribution to Salina Civic Betterment The money is also used to build up their camping equipment. They have a 16 x 16 army surplus tent with stove, 8 x 10 tent six 2 man ?nts, a camp stove, lantern, two 60 quart coolers, dutch oven, grill, plus all cooking accessories. They have tarps, dining fly, shovels, axes, etc. All of the basic camping supplies are included. A few of these items were donated, otherwise the items were all purchased by the troop. .
