Ray Andreason was acquited in the same trial. The two, both residents of Salina, had been charged with second degree felony theft of electricity from Utah Power and Light Co. Ray Andreason is a former employee of UP&L, and was charged with assisting his son, Derek, in connecting electrical outlets without going through a UP&L meter at D & D Construction Company. The younger Andreason was charged with using electricity with no intent to pay for it. Larry Mills, who investigated the incident from UP&L, said this was done by running a wire from the power line, b passing the meter and connecting directly into the warehouse. UP&L estimated that about $4,000 of electricity was lllegially used over the past 30 months. Employees of D&D Construction testified power was only supplied in the warehouse by means of extension cords from a nearby office building. Ray Andreason denied he did anything illegal, and says he did not help anyone to do anything illegal. Twenty five witnesses testified 29 times during the trial, and 36 items of evidence were used. Don Brown, Sevier County Attorney said in his closing arguments that evidence clearly showed that electricity was being used without being paid for. He noted that Derek Andreason had been in trouble with UP&L several times for failing to pay power bills. David Mower, attorney for the Defense, said that though the inappropriate connection did exist, there is no way of knowing who did it, or how it happened Mower asked the jurj to overlook minor inconsistencies in the testimony of defense witnesses. He said that this is normal when time has passed since the event occurred I Sandi Reynolds Georgia Johnson Miss No. Sevier ance and reported that 80 percent of his fee had been submitted to the State Health Department for payment. The Council agreed to pay the firm of Jones and DeMille as soon as the funds arrive - the Citys share of the sewer study expense to the firm will be paid. Jones reported he had not been paid for engineering work on city and state bridge projects. He will check with the Utah Department of Transportation to see what is holding his payment up. Update on City Council issues Business at the March 4 meeting of Salina City Council included the following items: The Council had heard some controversial broadcasts on the radio about Salina, which had been authored by Dean Christensen. Christensen was asked where he got his information, and was asked to make sure all statements were factual. He was asked to use more positive thinking in his broadcasting Wayne Sittre reported that the Salina Chamber of Commerce will help in the street cleanup project this year. He told the Council that the pump on the water truck needed to be repaired, and that a hose for the truck is also needed. Sittre suggested that a letter be written to the State Road Department asking for additional help to keep Highway 89 cleaned through Salina, due to heavy truck traffic. The Council agreed to write the letter. m conjunction txttt,ti!!ic1' i't4 laficlictfi i: icitli iT lufia 7tr IThc-t- .l m Ur f mrg a nullum r JI h it )JJ rvrhlujn) v 3t tit w It ialicin cTiJ w aj auiS Ut alrfcil ita afid ralaluitTitxl lout 1 ti 3t .a 4 I .1 i ! v he Hu)!
