No Books Day is sponsored by the Utah Council of International Reading Association and the Deseret News. It is part of the nationwide y Newspaper-in-Educatio- Week. n Mrs. Albrechts class found that instead of their usual reading, math and science books, they would be using a copy of the Deseret News for all their studies - all day long. The newspaper would provide a giant textbook - workbook for teaching language arts, social studies, math, science and health. The third graders were actively involved with activities all day, such as going on a scavenger hunt through the newspaper; learning the different makeup terms of the newspaper - headlines - dateline -captions, etc; locating information; counting proper nouns and nouns in a sports article; going on a a news hunt of interesting items in todays news, and many other activities. Mrs. Albrecht reports that the students enjoyed working with the newspaper, and were somewhat surprised to find that the newspaper supplied all their teacing and learning needs during the day.
