The Wolves travel to Wayne for this week's game, NS Girls take 4th in Region play As the girls basketball teams in the region played off last week, one team did not thing was certain-o- ne shine above another when it came down to the top three teams. Kanab pulled off a one point win at the buzzer against North Sevier to go on and wiiKfirst place. Valley was second, and North Sevier was third. North Sevier started the tournament against Gunnison. This was the only game in which Coach Camp felt her team played their kind of offense, and it worked, as they defeated Gunnison In this game Debbie Reynolds had 10 points and Angela Mason had 11. Lisa Willardson had 11 steals, and Kathy Glover also had 11. 57-1- Kanab was next on their list, and this turned out to be a disappointment to the local team. They led the whole game, even after having foul after foul called against them. Kanab found themselves at the foul line, shooting 20 times, compared to North Seviers 10. The fouls not only allowed Kanab to score 24 of their 48 points from the foul line, it also forced North Sevier to play without several of their key players due to foul trouble early in the game. The final 15 seconds of the game found Lisa Willardson at the foul line, shooting two. She made both, to pull her team ahead by one, For 13 seconds, the defense held Kanab from penetrating to the basket and at last a desperation shot was taken. Because of a poor blocking out by North Sevier, a Kanab player got the rebound and took it up for two points at the buzzer, for the win. illardson had her best Lisa game of the tournament by scoring points. Kathy Glover was next with only 8. Camp explained that the team did not play as well as they were capable of this game. She said that the fast break and their ability to agressively take the ball to the basket were never seen in the game, some items they would work on this week as they prepare for the state tournament. North Sevier fininshed the tournament against Enterprise. They defeated this team 0 for third place. Debbie Reynolds finished with 14 points, and Kathy Glover 12. This was the second game of the tournament, in which everybody played. The state tournament will be held this weekend, Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Beaver. North Sevier studies canyonland The world is full of arches. There was bracketed with Green River (last year's second place team) and Kanab, which means the tournament could go any of a number of directions, depending on the team's ability to play ball the first night. North Sevier will play Green River at 6:30 p m. on Thursday in Beaver. Camp felt that they would work on how to draw fouls under the basket and to perfect their fast break and offensive game. If they will prepare mentally, they will be able to compete with the very best of the tournament, said Camp. If not, the first three games at state will be tough. Three players from Salina were named to the team: Lisa Willardson, Debbie Reynolds and Kathy Glover. Camp felt that three out of the ten named represented their school very well. n Frank Gotch, whom many consider the greatest wrestler in modern times, held the record for the quickest fall pinning an opponent in seconds. 4 are arches in backs, arches in feet, arches in doorways, eyebrows that arch, and archers that love archery. But the arches that really belong to the earth are natural rock arches - those majestic structures with spans from a few inches to 300 feet. They are one of nature's rarest and most beautiful creations. They are also one of Utah's prized possessions, and the object of a study by Dr. Dale Stevens, professor at BYU. With a grant from BYU, Stevens spent last fall trekking through Southern Utahs Arches National Park, measuring, photographing, and classifying every arch he could find. Twelve years ago, 88 arches had been identified; last fall, when Stevens began his study, the number was 288. When he finished, he had a list of more than 450. The formation of an arch takes anywhere from several hundred years to hundreds of thousands of years. The first requirement is a slab of vertical rock, usually sandstone. Neither water nor wind cuts a hole through the rock, as is commonly thought, but stress lines develop in an arched form at weak points. As these stress lines build, the weight of the rock above bears down and weak material falls away. Eventually all arches are eaten away to the point they fall, Stevens said. Its amazing how good 44-4- 20 BYU others look, when you look for the good in others. 51-3- public service of this publication and C hrist of Latter-da- y Saints he Church of A 1 Je-u- s 1 4 |
