The Wolves topped the whole thing off by winning their 'ootball game against Parowan. To sell, .or not to sell cattle ranchers bring their calves off the range this fall, they are faced with a tough decision: As Should they sell the calves now, or hold them over for spring sale. DeeVon Bailey, extension economist at USU has prepared an analysis that will help ranchers make that decision. The cost of feed will weigh most heavily as the deciding factor. The rancher should also consider the expectations for winter and the extended cold periods it brings, which can cut daily weight gains as cattle use more energy for maintenance. To make the decision, the producers need to figure out what it will cost to feed and maintain the cattle over the winter and arrive at an estimate of prices the following mw 4 jsHaBi. poaiiaoei year. Many variables need to be estimated: alfalfa hay, barley, salt and bloat block, vet medicine and equipment, labor costs, and loan interest. Also included should be an estimate of death loss, which Bailey puts at 3 percent. Two other expenses should be added - the interest that would be lost by not selling this fall, and a 750-231- wonderful, if somewhat peculiar suntan. And I carry with me the indelible, if somewhat unattractive mementos of my very first sunburn, earned at age 12, during my first summer in my new Utah home, as I followed my new Dad all over the farm-sitt- ing on the back of Old Duke as he pulled the plow, or rake, or mower up and down the fields. By nightfall, my face and arms were scarlet, and im METIK m VOUJHnl i it was days before I could sit without pain...although Dad reassured me that the ache in that area was not due to sunburn. My reward for those days working under the scorching summer sun, was a permanent bright red No low cut or off the shoulder jobs for me... I was branded...a semiscarlet woman, forever. Oh well, it all just proves my theory that all of us come into the world with something unusual -some unique quality to set us apart from our neighbor. It would be unbearable if we all were carbon copies of each other. And...I will admit that deep down I dread the approaching day when nobody calls me Red. I dont have any other outstanding features, and hate to lose this one.. .Well, come to think of it, I DO have one eye that sort of tilts off to the left k. . Who needs a rocking chair? Who says because the years pile up you have to sit on the sidelines and not enjoy life? At 76, hes done it again...Paul Petzoldt, of Lander, Wyoming, has climbed Grand Teton Peak, the loftiest point in the rugged Teton Mountain Range on the border. A hobby now, hes been doing it for sixty years. He first conquored the mountain when he was 16 years old, and later established several climbing schools in Wyoming and Idaho, and also authored books on the subject of mountain climbing. Those wishing to know the break-eve- n price for cattle next spring should call their county agent, who can run the program using estimated costs provided by the producer. For more information call Bailey or your local at USU, county agent. It seems totally unfair to me... I mean really now.. .why should I have to put up with it? Does Loni Anderson put up with it? Or Lynda Grey? Never! Joan Collins would never allow her adoring public to refer to her as a beautiful, vivacious, Blackhead. And would Johnny Carson in all his glory consent to be called a White Head? Why then, should I, with my strawberry locks, be referred to as a Redhead? I always have to strain to be sure they didnt say Deadhead. Its depressing, to say the least.. .though I guess its been a common occurrence since time began. Wasnt Eric the Red named for his flaming auburn locks? Even back then did we ever hear tell of Jack the Brown, or William the Blonde? Its unconstitutional, if you ask me. Still, this crowning glory of mine comes equipped with several outstanding features nearly exclusive to Our Gang. We Redheads can step out into the summer sun for five minutes and have a nose to match, or sometimes even outshine our tresses. And some of us can boast of actually zillions of those tiny polka dots lovingly referred to as Freckles. Now, if I .could only find an attractive way to connect the dots, Id have a MCvHO) mm?
