Much of the work has been done at the station and side trips have been made to various points in the state, Where many new and suspicious plants have been gathered The work of the' experimental sta- tions, Col. Marsh stated, is not confined to one particular section and plants of various kinds are gathered from all parts of the world. These are preserved and tested for poison ous effects, notes are taken and at Washington a complete report made and results tabulated. Things are shaping in splendid way for the big Utah Education association annual convention to be held in 22nd Salt Lake City on October-21stand 23rd. Four speakers of national repute have been secured for the occasion and early indications point to a record breaker attendance, The association is becoming bigger and bigger from year to year and .it3 convention is now one of the notable events of the capital each autumn. It has become-thmagnet about which many other state organ izations are drawn and its convention time has become the at which a number of these now hold their annual meetings. In his report of the cases before him during ithe six monLhs ending September 30, there were twelve miscreants hailed before the court of justice. Three of these were for staging battles like Tunney and. Dempsey, only the Salina scrappers staged their bouts without first getting permission. Two were fined . for disturbing the peace and during the. six months only two drunks weie landed in the net. For reckless driving three were arrested and fined .and. one fellow was doing business within the city limits without a license, as provided by the city ordinances. One of the commendable features in the report is the fact that only one was fined for stealing, and this was a petit larceny case. Stealing has been rampant in years gone by and it will be joyous news to know that' this act of law breaking is becoming less. The amount of fines assessed during the six months, as shown by the records of Judge Gee, total $233. Practically all of this has been paid into the city coffers, and only in a instances" have the violators .. few. failed to pay the fines assessed. Sam. K. The car was consigned to the Cailoy Production company, at St. Louis, Mo. The cars pieviously shipped were consigned to with the Salt Lake Tribune last.week when he remarked Sell Utah Scen- ery. Sam Smith knqws what Utah has and stresses upon the fact that Southern Utah scenery surpasses any to be found either in the United States or in any of the foreign countries, because he has visited many in We .have scenery both' places. here, he is quoted as saying, different from that in any other part of the world. Men who have traveled to Europe, India and all corners, of the globe say that Bryce canyon is the most marvelous thing they have ever seen. ' Some day a highway will be finished 'to connect Zion National park, Cedar Breaks, Bryce canyon and the north rim of the Grand canyon offering more scenic attraction than any other area in the world. If. the facts expressed by Mr. Smith could be absorbed, by every citizen of. Salt Lake, Kink Bill Rishel included, then. Southern Utahs scenic wonderland ' would become famed and millions of travelers would be traveling southward. It is though, that many at Salt Lake ne not doing their share in exploit-towhat Southern Utah has and are ot trying one minute to Sell Utah Scenery. Southern Utah,' however, is doing ts best to exploit the great wonderlands. And SoutheriT ' Utah is not toying to detract from Salt Lake. On the other hand, the southern ; boosters are trying to upbuild Salt Lake and are not trying to keep travelers from there. Mr. Smith has the correct idea and he knows the value of selling what we have to the thousands of tourists that have come, are coming and will come. . - evi-len- g -- Mr. and Mrs. Joe Michelson, who have been in Delta the past six months where Mr. Michelson was manager of the Golden Rule stale, have returned to Salina and w'li permanently in this city. 12-si- !a large manufacturing concern 'at Joliet, Illinois.
