Legion Plans Annual Birthday Party Benefit Fashion Show Planned For New Salina Stake Center and The Salina Legion Auxiliary are planning their annual Birthday Party for April 2nd There will be a program sponsored by the high school The social hour will be at 7 00 with the dinner at 8 Dinner will consist of swiss steak and will cost $6 00 per couple All that are interested in attending, please call PM, o clock A special Legion Auxiliary meeting will be held Thursday, March 24th, (tonight) at 7 30 P M at the Legion Hall The girls who will attend Girls State Fashion Show, sponsored by three local Salma merchants will be held Thursday, March 31st, at the North Sevier High School Auditorium Proceeds Center Fund Models from Paulette's, Whites Western Wear, and Mels for Men will be showing beautiful, new spring fashions There will be formal wear for proms, sportswear, elegant R&K Originals, all types of western wear, and clothes for the men, as well as spring jackets and even some fun new jogging outfits The show will begin at 7 30 P M , and everyone is invited to attend Bring your family and see what s new for spring, and let your donations help with the new Stake Center in June will be selected at this meeting All members are asked to please be in attendance well as fence posts and the west side of a corral belonging to Dan Anderson The barrow pit Swirling, stiff gusts of wind swept a grass and brush fire out of control, and only the quick work of the Sahna Volunteer Fire Department prevented the blaze from burning everything m its path The fire alarm was sounded at 1 45 P M March 16th, and in minutes the firemen were on the job The blaze was on the east side of U S Highway 89, one mile north of Salma Flames burned over an area about one half mile long and 75 yards wide m some places It started to the south and burned north, taking dry grass, swamp rushes, willows and brush, as well-dresse- d alongside the highway was burned, as well as dry grass and weeds m the Denver & Rio Grande right-o- f way At one point, the flames jumped the railroad tracks where it spread to the Anderson corral Cause of the blaze is Kiesel on the necessity of extreme caution in outside burn ing They pointed out the extreme dry conditions of all f 4 ej5X;Sv s k srf Y v 4 The Six County Commissioners Organization and the Division of Alcoholism and Drugs are scheduling a public hearing on March 25th, at 7 30 P M , at the Sevier County Courthouse, to present the proposed Drug and Alcohol Plan for FY 78 and FY79 This hearing will be to discuss proposed plans in the area of alcohol and drug prevention, education and rehabilitation for the Six County area f , : Adopts 1-- 70 The Utah Transportation Commission, meeting in Salt Lake City Friday, unanimously adopted the Final Environmen tal Impact Statement (E I S ) for the proposed construction of I 70 through the Sevier Valley m Sevier County The document will now be submitted to the Federal Highway Administration who will then forward it to the Council on Environmental Quality Either agency may suggest changes or additions to the study After the study, with any changes, is approved by the federal government, the final E I S will be made available to the public and interested agencies approval of the document will also give the Utah Department of Transportation the authority to begin the final design and actual construction of the project The Final E I S details the social, economic and environmental impacts of the proposed construction of 32 miles of 1 70 from Sevier Junction to Salina along an alignment called the Federal Study The West Side Alternate West Side Alternate was one of three alternatives for the location of the highway which were considered m great detail in a Draft Environmental Impact Statement and during public hearings on the proposed highway The West Side Alternate follows the west foothills from Sevier Junction to Sigurd and then crosses the valley to the mouth of Salina Canyon The other alternates would have located the highway along the east side of the valley, or through the center of the valley After considering the findings of the draft E I S and the testimony received at public hearings, the Commission determined, m November of 1976, that the West Side Alternate would have the greatest public benefit and the least adverse impact on the environ- ment When completed, 1 70 will connect with near Cove Fort and will serve as a major traffic earner between Denver and the West Coast Sock Hop Saturday Dont miss the Salina Stake Sock Hop this Saturday, March 26th, from 9 00 to 12 00 midnight at the Redmond Youth Everyone 16 and over is inThe price is 50 for singles and $1 00 per couple.
