Show Redmond News Birthday enjoyed by former Satina resident ' Rebecca Mattsson Mrs. France A. (Rebecca Crane) Mattsson, a native of Salina, celebrated her 87th birthday on February 9th at the Long Beach, California home of her eldest daughter, Mary, and her Howard G. Tracy. as she is affection-'-atelBee, known by her many friends in this area, traveled by car from her present home in Chico, California with her second son-in-la- y daughter, Ruth Mattsson. The pair met the youngest daughter, Mrs. Robert M. (Blanche) Beechinor, of San Marcos, Texas, at the Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday, February 8th, for the last leg of the trip. This 87th milestone in Bees life was a memorable occasion, since it was the first time in nearly 30 years that all three of her daughters were able to be with their mother on her birthday. Her four grandchildren and Blanche's husband. Col. Robert M. Beechinor Jr., who is retired, gathered at the family home in Texas and sang "Happy Birthday, Dear Grandma during a special telephone call on her big day. The following day, her daughters hosted a luncheon at the Tracy home for Robert Evans, a young 90, his daughter. Fay Evans Loomis, of San Pedro, and Mrs. Millicent Jensen, of Long Beach, all of whom are e friends and were neighbors of the Mattssons in Salina. long-tim- Mrs. Mattsson and her husband, France, planned and built the beautiful home now occupied by the, Warren Jensen Funeral Home; At the time of its construction in the late 20s, the Mattssons planned and incorporated many innovative and novel features which were new to the Southern Utah area. Mr. Mattsson was a prominent stockman and rancher in partnership with the eldest of the seven Mattsson brothers, Oscar. In 1945, the Mattssons disposed of their home and other property and moved to Long Beach. Mr. Mattsson passed away there in 1955. Mrs. Mattsson was active in community affairs and was one of the leaders in the Ladies Literary Club sponsored annual event Old Folks Day. She was noted for her delicious homemade bread, pies, and nourishing soups which were delivered to the homes of older of people, the ill, and shut-in- s all ages. This year, Bee received over 50 birthday cards from friends and loves ones to make her 87th a day to remember. She has an astounding memory for dates and sends birthday greetings to friends and family members down to the third generation. One great niece, upon meeting her dear Aunt Bee for the I love first time, exclaimed, you so much - you have never missed sending me a birthday card in 22 years! Long Beach's largest newspaper published a special feature story on the Birthday Card Lady in 1957, which paid tribute to her thoughtfulness and loving deeds. She hasn't permitted her advanced years to deter her from continuing to remember all the birthdays in the family and those of a wide circle of friends living all over the country and the world. She is justifiably proud of her three and daughters, two four grandchildren. Mary, a teacher by profession, served as an English instructor in Wyoming, Utah, and California high schools. During her tenure at Brawley Union High School, Imperial Valley, California, from which she retired in 1972, she was elected Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the students. As -- marjorie fflickelsen serving all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. She had many honors and awards bestowed for the outstanding caliber of her work. On leave, Ruth traveled extensively and has visited every continent except South America and Antartica. Since February, 1970, she has been the Director of the Senior Adult Center for the Chico Area Recreation and Part District. She retired from that position in January, 1976, and is currently involved in conducting charter bus tours for groups within the northern portion of the Sacramento Valley. Blanche and Bob are very active in community and church affairs in San Marcos and in the military activities of the Southwest Texas area. Col. Beechinor is an instructor in the San Marcos Academy and is much in demand as a speaker on the history of the Civil War. Blanche is active in musical groups, is a member of the Crescendo Club and devotes a great deal of time from her bush schedule to the residents in San Marcos hospitals. She inherited her mothers cooking her prowess and continues familys tradition of delivering baked goods and nourishing food to the elderly, the shut-inand families in bereavement. The Beechinors are the parents of Bee's four grandchildren. France Michael, an automotive engineer and U.S. Army veteran of Korea and Vietnam, resides with his wife, Thelma, a bilingual teacher, in Alvin, Texas. Julia Rebecca (Becky), graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College with a degree in Health Education. Becky resides in Edinburg, Texas but travels throughout the Rio Grande Valley supervising the work of 15 area instructors in Public Health and Education. Becky was recently nominated for a state office in the Health Educators Association. Her work is so well known that she has been a guest on numerous television and radio stations. William Howard attends his alma mater and is filling the requirements for a degree in Art. William plans to specialize in medical illustrations for surgeons, medical textbooks, and professional journals. He has been awarded two scholarships for his accomplishments and work in the Episcopal Church Youth Program. Diane Blanche, the youngest, attends San Marcos High School and like her mother at North Sevier High School, is very active in the school band. Diane plays first clarinet in this high caliber band which is invited to play concerts, for parades, and other special events throughout Texas. All of Mrs. Mattssons family members love her dearly and admire her fortitude in overcoming numerous health problems and her determination to remain active, cheerful, and sisters close to family-an- d her innumerable friends. She travels with Ruth a great deal by car and participates in some of the tours. She is a member of the Chico Senior Citizens Association and enjoys attending community events. May all the "caring and sharing, great love and concern for others she has practiced all her life return ten fold to Mother, Grandmother, Aunt Bee," Mother Mattsson and old friend, Rebecca C. Mattsson. In Hindu mythology the afterworld has 28 divisions, including one in which people are required to eat cake. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Poulson, Corinne, Utah, visited Mrs. Dora Weller. They were enroute to Phoenix. Mrs. Emma Jensen went with her son, Lee, to his home in Spanish Fork after her release from the Gunnison Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Poulson were in Heber Saturday of last week to visit their children, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Jensen and family, and help their daughter, Kathleen, celebrate her birthday. Mr. and Mrs. LaMar Boss-hartended their little granddaughter while her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Ahlquist, and friends of Hunter, went to Las Vegas Saturday to Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Nelson and baby son moved here recently from Salina. They live in a mobile home. He is a grandson of Mrs. Thelma Jensen. We welcome them here. Mr. and Mrs. Byron Jensen went to Salt Lake Saturday to Tuesday and visited their children, Mr. and Mrs. DeVon Jensen and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Dickerson and families. Mrs. Reva Sorenson was in the Richfield Hospital overnight for tests. Her children, Mr. and Mrs. David Myrup, of Salt Lake, came to bring her home. Mr. and Mrs. Gleave Peterson went to Las Vegas Thursday, March 4th, and visited until Monday with their children, Mr. and Mrs. James Crandall and family and with her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Denzil Aiken. Mrs. Ralph Morley, Kays-villcame down and visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Peterson, Thursday to Saturday. She and her mother did a lot of sewing and she attended the ward banquet with them and also the High Priests Party Friday evening at the Salina Elementary School. The ward banquet Thursday evening was very successful. After a delicious ham dinner, the Primary put on a very fine and enjoyable program, the Bicentennial as their theme. All the organizations helped with the various jobs. Mr. and Mrs. Danny Olsen, Salt Lake, had a baby girl March 6, 1976, at the Gunnison Hospital. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Richard Olsen, Gunnison. Great grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.' Clifford Christensen, Redmond, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Olsen, Salt Lake. Danny was recently released fron) the Navy. Mr. and Mrs. Adley Peterson had a nice trip. They left March 2nd and went to Las Vegas and visited their children, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Herd, and Mr. and Mrs. Widstoe Bastian and their families. Then they drove to Marysville, California and visited TSgt. and Mrs. Gary Hales ' and family. Gary is leaving March 20th for Alaska for three years. His family will go and be with him when he finds housing. They are now at Beale Air Force Base. Adley and Jeannette traveled 1,800 miles and came home Wednesday, March 10th. Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Peterson, of Salt Lake, came down and stayed overnight Saturday with the Adley Petersons. Mr. and Mrs. Dolph Spencer and family were in Salt Lake Saturday and Sunday of last week. Mrs. Spencers parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mellor, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary March 6th at the 9th Ward Church. They had many friends from Fayette come to it. They have been gone from Fayette for 19 years. Mr. and Mrs. Mar Mickelsen, Mrs. Jay Lund and daughter. e, went to Salt Lake Saturday to do some shopping and visit relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Larsen. Salt Lake, and Eddie Jensen, Sandy, visited Mr. and Mrs. Orvil Jensen and Mrs. Velma Black Saturday. Wallace and Arnelda Poulson and Vernal and Mae Nelson put on the program Sunday evening. They all spoke and the ward choir furnished the music. Gavla Johnson was released from the Sunday School. Fran Mickelsen and Jae Laier from the Primary. Betty Lewis and Louise Jensen w ere sustained as Primary workers, kelson came also and Mathal had dinner for them. Mrs. Wendall Rasmussen and children went to Koosharem Saturday and joined her parents. Mr. and Mrs. George S. Hatch, to attend the Old Folks Party. This is an annual affair. They serve both dinner and supper to all adults in the ward and former residents and visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Willis Hales. Mr. and Mrs. Vernal Nelson, and Mr. and Mrs. Evan Mickelsen joined friends from Salina and went to Koosharem and enjoyed supper and dancing at the party. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Olsen, of West Jordan, Mrs. Don Sanderson. Granger, visited Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hales Wednesday. They visited Jacks mother, Mrs. Hazel Goodman, in Salina. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Newman and son, John, Granger, visited Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hales. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Christensen, Kathy and Carol Lee went to Salt Lake over the weekend and visited their children, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Christensen and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Christensen and families. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Black-haand family. Salt Lake, visited Saturday with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Seely. Mr. and Mrs. Steven Jensen and baby are moving here. He will be working with his brother, Allen, in his auto shop in Salina. They plan to build a home west of his mothers, Mrs. Vontess Jensen. We are happy to have them coming. Mr. and Mrs. David Poulson and family. Salt Lake, spent Saturday to Monday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Poulson. Tonya Poulson left Friday with the Snow College Acapello Choir under the direction of McLoyd Erickson to go to San Francisco. They put on several performances and visited points of interest. Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Mark, Keith, Ann Marie, of Riverton, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ernel Jensen last Friday and Saturday. Jensen and family, FILTER-FL- Mrs. Vera Anderson was remembered on her birthday Saturday by calls from all her children and a visit from Marvel and Darlene Anderson and friends and neighbors. Summer wedding plans Miss Nalin Despain and Mr. James Leroy Behunin happily announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage on July 17, 1976, and the reception in their honor at the DeKator Manor. Both have attended North Sevier High School. He is employed by R & R Furniture Co., of Salina. They will make their home in Redmond. Their parents are Jerilyn R.
