Show Dog Show Winners School Board Minutes Tentative notes of aetion taken by the Sevier Board of Education at their regular meeting held August 8, 974. The meeting was held at the District Office at 8.00 A.M. All members of the Board of Education were in attendance. President Kenneth Glover, S. Greenwood. Myron Madsen Dan Manning, and Robert Nielson, as were Superintendent Leland T. Teeples and Samuel D. Ware. Direvtor of Business Affairs. President Glover presided over and conducted the meeting. The invocation was offered by Mr. Greenwood. Mr. Madsen made the motion that the July payroll and the minutes of the previous regular meeting held July 25, I9"4, be approved as written. Mr. Nielson seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Wil-liar- n bid A on was anti-free- c opened as follows: Intermountain Farmers, Richfield. Utah-16gal. Unico antifreeze at $3 95 per gal. The motion was made by Mr. Madsen, seconded by Mr. Nielson, to award the bid to Intermountain Farmers. Motion passed unanimously. A bid was opened on Propane gas from Petrolane Gas which indicated no firm price available at this time. The motion was made by Mr. Greenwood, seconded bv Mr. Madsen, that Superintendent Teeples be authorized to purchase propane gas at his discretion. Motion passed unanimously. Milk bids were opened as follows: Dairy, Valtl Ware, Distributor. Monroe. to South Sevier and Richfield attendance areas, .083 per half pint in cartons; Dairy, Dean Bartholomew, Distributor, Gunnison, to North Sevier attendance area. .081 per half pint in cartons; Ideal Dairy. Richfield, to entire Sevier School District attendance area, .078 per half pint in pouches. d y Discussion resulted in a motion by Mr. Greenwood, seconded by Mr. Manning, awarding the bid to Ideal Dairy as the low bidder. Motion passed unanimously. Discussion resulted in a motion by Mr. Greenwood, seconded by Mr. Manning, awarding a contract to Busk Construction Company, of Richfield, Utah, to construct the new tennis courts at Richfield High School for a price of $6,810. Mr. Ware. Business Director, shared information with the Board concerning the Sevier School District insurance plan as it relates to Educator's Mutual Insurance Company. It was reported that a pretrial hearing concerning the Grant Mogle case is scheduled for August 28, 1974. Teeples reported that there is oOO.OOO lbs. of coal in stockpile for district use. I he stockpile plan has saved the district considerable money because of recent price increases. The Board authorized raising the minimum salary of bus drivers on layover time to $1.90 per hour. It was reported that the three new buses will be read" for delivery August 22. 1974. Mr. Nielson accepted the responsibility of making necessary arrangements to deliver the buses to Richfield. It was reported by Supt. leeples that Elmer Greenhalgh has been lured as a bus mechanic tor the district to replace Evan Huntsman, who recently resigned. School board members were invited to participate in the preschool institute to be held at fish Lake August 21. 1974. Free use of gymnasium lacilities in Sevier School District was discussed. Supt. leeples was authorized to make contacts with some individuals concerning free access of school b y V I Redmond Hews . gymnasiums V V V . interested groups. A decision will be made at the next regular school board meeting. Visits by the Board of Education to various schools in the District for the 1974-7school year were discussed. It was determined that a stronger el tort will be made by the Board to become better acquainted with the many fine programs and classroom situations that will be in operation. The motion was made by Mr. Manning, seconded by Mr. Nielson, that the Board go into an executive session. Motion passed unanimously. The Board engaged in an executive session. I he motion was made by Mr. Nielson, seconded by Mr. Greenwood, that the Board go out of executive session. Motion passed unanimously. I vie Larsen, of First Security Bank in Salt Lake City, Utah, met with the Board concerning the sale of bonds scheduled for September 12, 1974. The motion was made by Mr. Madsen, seconded by Mr. Manning, that Supt. Teeples be approved as a substitute bus driver. The next regular meeting of the Sevier School District Board of Education will be held August 22. 1974. at 8:00 A.M. in the District Office. 5 ,k i- - Kt Jody Johnson displays trophy won by his dog Tuffin. It was a big day for Salina youngsters at the Sevier County Dog Show held in conjunction with the County Fair. Cindy Hussman, who showed a dog owned by the Wayne Foltzs, brought home first place Grand Entry; first place Obedience; second place Grooming; and fourth place for Largest Dog. Kurt Ewles and his dog. Tubby, won third for Best Trick: third for Obedience; Second for Smallest Dog; second for Grand Entry; and fifth for Best Groomed. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Courtney Ewles. Tubby is part Pekingese and Pomeranian. son Jody Johnson, of Mr. and Mrs. U'Dell Johnson, of Redmond, showed his dog, Tuffin, and won first place trophy for the Largest Dog in the Show in the age class. He also brought home a second place ribbon in Obedience, and a second in Trick Class. Tuffin is an part Collie w ith extra short legs. Jody's sister, Sue, brought it to him from Snowflake, Arizona. 3 529-339- 0 Mrs. Wendall Rasmussen was chaperone for the Mutual guts who went to camp at Gooseberry from Tuesday to Friday. Nola Larsen went to Salt lake to spend a few days with her sister, Mrs. Elbert A idcr-toMr. Anderton had surgery and she went to help her. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Hales and tumiiy were visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hales and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Sorenson, for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. David Myrup. Salt Lake, spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Reva Sorenson. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Pickett and family, Springdale. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Peterson. Bountiful, and Mrs. Sandra Brown and daughter. Salt Lake, spent the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bronzell Pickett. Mrs. Clifford Chidister has been transferred from the L.D.S. Hospital in Salt Lake to the Richfield Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Chidister have been at her side and assisted her in being moved. Mrs. Reva Sorenson spent a week in Cedar City with her children, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Nielson and family, and went with them to visit Bryce and Zions Parks, Las Vegas, Boulder Dam and Bloomington. They brought her home and left their children. Bob and Janet, with her for a few days, so Gary could fly to Chicago on a business trip. Miss Carol Schwitzer, from Orange, California, visited a few days with her friend, Carma Sorenson. While here, they visited Fish Lake, attended the Pageant in Manti. Carma returned to California with Carol for a week, where they visited Disneyland, Knoxberry Farm, San Diego, and the Universal Studios. Carol flew home and enroute home, she attended the wedding of Janet Webb, who is the daughter of Edith Webb, who is Carma's cousin. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sorenson and family visited in Manti Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Clara Anderson and with Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Garbe and with Mrs. Mabel Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Breck Poulson, Donald Poulson and fiancee, Ealcia French, and her father. Jim French, and family, from Indiana, visited with Mrs. Jewel Poulson. They all spent the weekend at Fish Lake. Mr and Mrs. Lee Rav Rasmussen and family were guests at the homes of their Mr. and Mrs. grandparents, Sidney Peterson, of Redmond, and Mr. and Mrs. Kennard I arson, ot Salma. They were accompanied by Mrs. Rasmussen's mother, Mrs. Donna Prims, ol Salt Lake City. They visited here on the 9th and 10th. Mr. and Mrs. Rasmussen have been living in Tokvo, Japan for the past year and will return for one more vear. Mr. Rasmussen is with IBM. in Tokyo. They have vacationed here the past three weeks, visiting their home in Boise, Idaho and their parents and triends in Murray and Salt Lake. Friday evening. Mis Rasmussen and Mrs. Plows and two children returned to Salt Lake. The same evening. Mr. Rasmussen's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Rasmussen, ot Murray, joined Ice and the three older children in Redmond. Saturday morning thev all left for Denver. Colorado to visit with Lee's sister, Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Johnson, and son. Eric, of Denver. They will return to Murrav Monday, the 12th, and return to Japan the following week. Petty Officer 2nd Class LaVon A. Rasmussen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Philo Rasmussen, of Redmond, was released August 2. 1974. frOmthe U.S. Navy, after completingfour year active duly in VAW 113 aboard Nas North Island. San Diego, California. After completion of basic training, he was assigned to the Nuclear Aircraft Carrier Enterprise CVAN 65. He has served on this Carrier in many foreign waters during his tour of duty. In June, he brought his wife, Becky, and son. Shelby, to Mt. Pleasant to be with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Anderson, while he spent the month of July aboard the Enterprise. They are now living in Granger. LaVon Ronald Rasmussen.
