Kent Crandall - Publisher Carla Crandall - Editor in Advance, Subscription VS per $4-0- VMRT May I respond to Mr. Cherrys statement about the plan of the Road Commission to widen Highway 89 through Salina. 1. Is it the best route, not only for today, but also for the future. Do we have the money to build today and change tomorrow? Will Highway 89 be a permanent road through Salina, or will it bypass Salina costing money in condemning property and in construction vear-Smgl- costs? 10c Copy e VSiy X MB VC CIASSIIED ABVEflflSING sharpened, circular or SAW& hand saws. Is the danger to school children, to older people, and to aU traffic crossing town worth the few dollars Income it brings? Is there any reason to keep the road In town other than the money it brings to the few businesses dealing with tourists? Does it bring as much money to town as we think it does? Do we have any facts that tell us how much money it will mean, or are we afraid of something that just is not true? 3. Who spends money in Salina? Does the tourist spend more than the resident? Is the reduction in quality of Ufe, necessary to support the road, worth the extra income if the income were counted over the population of Salina? 4. Does the reduction in "Life Quality" in terms of Noise, Danger, Transient Travel, Crime and Pollution, which traffic creates mean anything to the residents of Salina? 5. If service stations and restaurants are going to be hurt, why not get the Road Commission to agree to sell them or even give present owners space on the new road to keep their business. 6. If a stalemate exists, lets ask the people of Salina to vote their choice as a true democracy. Perhaps, the businessmen should do more toward beingcompe-titiv- e with Richfield and Gunnison; and the towns people agree to support their home businesses in order to see that profits are stable, and in order to insure Salina s future. However, to allow the quality of life to disintegrate as it has done in our streams and atmosphere so that man can make a profit is not enough of a reason to kill our planet. Salina is a small part of this planet and a part that we love. We should see to it that wherever possible we improve the quality of life. Moving the highway would make the town more compatable to its people. Salina was settled by my great grandparents, along with other great, courageous men and women. They worked hard to make Salina a nice, clean, comfortable City. I disagree that cutting down the trees along Main Street made an improvement. Moving the power poles did. I disagree that Ught poles in the park make the park a better place. When we do things, we should try to see that the Improvement is positive. Is making a super highway in the town an improvement? I think not! Someone needs to say, Wait a minute. What are we doing? Where do we want to Uve? What life style do we want?" Too many times we say, "What is the profit? How can I make another buck? Maybe we need to say, "How does this make life more abundant?" Can this be made more beautiful? I remember raw sewage going Into the river. No one said much for years and years. Then one day we became a little more and did something about it. Ifwe build this highway, will we say we have BUILT another kind of pollution? Is it time that the businessmen, who have been provided a liveli-hod- d by the people of Salina, make an altruistic contribution to the people by proposing that the highway be put out of town? Are you businessmen willing to make that sacrifice to the people who have supported your businesses all these years? civi-Uz- ed s Quay Herbert J27t2p S23tfc 92 Weekly Report Salable Published Thursday of a zh week at Salma, Utah 84654 Second Class Postage Paid at Salma, Utah 84654 N.S.H.S. When the separator was pulled out, the cold front rushed in under the warm front; then it settled. Most of us could see "clouds bubbUng and swirling between the two fronts. After it was over, we knew and had seen for ourselves what happens when two fronts meet, or where an occlusion takes place. There are also many more. Some folklore signs of bad weather are cumulus clouds, fish, and whirlwinds. Do you know there are about 400 weather stations in the United States? They are stationed at airports and other key locations. Some ships and passenger planes send weather information to these stations. There are four main types of clouds. Mr. Bird handed our papers back to us so that we could take them home and show our parents our GOOD??? scores. What happens when a warm front and a cold front meet? You know? How? So you say, "I learned about it in school. For all you know, they were lying. Anyway, we know and Reporter North Sevier saw the musical South Pacific last Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday It was a big hit, and evenings. a good crowd came each night. There are four types of violent wind storms which are caused by heat and low pressure. They are: cyclone, a common name for all of them; tornado, or twister; hurricane which and forms over the ocean; typhoon, the hurricane which occurs from the Phillippines to Japan to China. The cyclone may be large enough to cover the entire United States, while the tornado may be only 300 yards wide. Most of them travel slowly, at a rate of about 20 miles per hour. Our earthquake watch is beginning to tell us that most earthquakes occur where land and water are closely related. Mr. Bird received some information about earthquakes from Washington, D. C., telUng about earthquakes that happened in August of last year. He should soon be getting information about months a little bit closer to January of 1972. Thats all for now.
