Grandma-Grea- t Iva Lou Nebeker keeps the traditional treat coming from her kitchen for the holidays each year, noting that 108 honey-swepopcorn balls were turned out last Monday for this years Christmas Eve family gathering at her home in Brigham City. Family LDS missionaries laboring away from home watch for their holiday package, too, so that grandmas popcorn balls will be part of their Christmas as a special touch for home. This year there are two grandsons away on missions. The tradition is an old one, with Iva Lou and her late husband Wendell making bushel baskets of popcorn balls for the children at Perry School for many years. Wendell popped the com in a pan on the coal stove while Iva Lou cooked up the syrup and molded the balls. Now she has an electric com popper. She keeps mighty busy outside her kitchen, also, as an oil painter and a writer of poetry and prose. Through the years she has been very active in all the auxiliaries of the LDS church, serving as stake Relief Society president for several years. But her favorite role is as a mother of four, for 12 grandmother of 21, and now as grandma-grecute little youngsters who seem to find that name easier to pronounce than its more common turn-abotitle. Iva Lou is proud of her family and was area mother of the year in 1969. Her children are scattered with W. Denton in Idaho, Lawana Bortolussi in Salt Lake City, Byron in Willard, and Gaye Higginson in Virginia, but she tries to see them all as often as possible. When it isnt holiday time she still likes to get the together for little parties, and to play host to them during their summer school vacations. Wendell and Iva Lou moved into Brigham City in 1963 after 40 years in Perry, and then left their new bring me letter to Santa Claus (or to anyone else inclined to come bearing gifts.) At the top of the list is that d album of Christiras carols sung only as Elvis can sing them, which may be true, but doesnt make it any more desirable for the familys collection of holiday music. Musical offerings of the very latest hits all collected on one record may also be eliminated; wed rather pick and choose our own performers and numbers. Then there is the latest lifelike doll, who can be fed its bottle and then it will burp and throw up on its- little parent.
