The vast majority of th nation's 140 million cars, trucks and busses are protected by some form of insurance. The need for coverage is demonstrated by the tremendous number of automobile accidents and the tragic toll they cost. During the course of a year, according to recent statistics, about one in every ten autos is involved in an accident. While automobile insurance can't prevent accidents, it does help relieve their financial consequences.
