Accumulated amounts of Disture were generally very ;ht but a few areas of moder-- e precipitation did occur in e heavier thunderstorms. Some hail was reported ring the latter part of the evious week and over the eekend with local damage to trdens and field crops. Hail inging up to nearly ameter was reported. one-inc- critical level for all dryland crops and ranges. Soli Moisture Soil moisture was again short in nonirrigated lands. No coun- ties reported adequate soil moisture. Range feed supplies were short as a result of the moisture shortage. The harvest of first crop alfalfa hay was rapidly ap proaching completion at about 80 percent finished. Some of the driest counties were just beginning while many others were finished. Most of the first crop was harvested with very little delay from stormy weather and quality should be excellent. Utahs winter wheat crop was virtually all headed out with some of the earlier areas be ginning to ripen. The expected beginning date for harvest was July 20. Sweet Cherries The major cherry areas reported that size and quality of the sweet cherry crop was good but quantity was short. There has also been a problem with labor not being available. Cherry condition was fair to good. Spring wheat, oats, and barley were each about s headed out. Weber county reported some problems with lodging. Green pea harvest was expected to be completed about three-fourth- July 9 Condition of snap beans and sweet corn was rated good.
